Jazeman watch

Williams F1 to "test" 14 year old Jazeman.

After a great start to the season for 14-year-old Malaysian driver Jazeman Jaafar, who took two wins and a second in the first four rounds of the Formula BMW Asia series at Sepang in Malaysia, he has been invited to visit the Williams factory in Grove today.

During the visit Jazeman will be accompanied by his Meritus race engineer and director Firhat Mokhzani and Dato' Kamaruddin the Deputy CEO of Malaysian based AirAsia who are partners of the AT&T Williams team. The AirAsia director is flying to support the young Malay motorsport star in his first F1 simulation.

Speaking about the prospect of testing the race simulator at Williams, driver Jazeman said: "The team will run the Sepang race configuration for me as I know the track so well. This simulator is so close to reality. It is huge and looks a lot like a flight simulator with a screen that goes all around. It is close to race feelings, but it is not quite the same of course.

"It is a very impressive tool for a driver. I am eager to try it out. This is a really cool opportunity for me and when Peter Thompson arranged the F1 simulation run for me I could not believe how lucky I am to be supported by Sir Frank and it is my dream to race for Williams.

"I have just started my professional motorsport career and have been working hard with Meritus over the past six months and all our hard work paid of when I won two races during the opening rounds of the 2007 F.BMW/Asia championship"

"I met Jazeman just before the Malaysian Grand Prix," said Adam Parr, Williams F1 Chief Executive. "Both Tony Fernandes at Air Asia and Williams were keen to give him a test. The best way to do this at Jazeman's age is to give him a run on our simulator. It is too early to tell whether he has the ability to make it to Formula One but he did well in Asian Formula Renault last year and has made a strong start to this season's Asian Formula BMW. He is also an intelligent and mature young man who works hard at school and has a particular interest in maths and science. These are all promising signs."

There you go. You need to like maths and science to have the potential to be in F1. lol.

But anyway, well done Jazeman for the wins in F.BMW and all the best. This thread will be maintain to track your progress.

Jazeman has won his 6th race (out of 12) of the 2007 Formula BMW Asia series thus maintaining his championship lead at Sentul.

Well done.

Also to add some pride for the jalur gemilang, Aaron Lim also won at Sentul in the Formula V6 Renault on Saturday making him the first Malaysian to win in the series.

Let's hope that there are more Malaysians coming up the ranks particularly from karting.

Thumbs up Thumbs up

Indonesian Zahir Ali (20/Team TARADTM) clinched the Driver Classification today in the final round of the 2007 Formula BMW Asia series, while South African Formula BMW Junior Kyle Mitchell (16/Eurasia Motorsport) won the Rookie Cup title after a superb final showdown with fellow Junior Hong Kong's Ross Jamison (17/CIMB Team Qi-Meritus).

After Round 22, and following receipt of a post-race scrutineering report, Race Stewards issued a Decision to exclude the cars of Jazeman Jaafar (MAS/CIMB Team Qi-Meritus) and Jack Lemvard (THA/CIMB Team Qi-Meritus) for a technical infringement of the regulations. In view of the severity of the offence and the fact that the same team had contravened the Technical Regulations on an earlier occasion during the season, the Decision also included the exclusion of CIMB Team Qi-Meritus from the Formula BMW Asia Series 2007.

The Decision put Malaysian teenager Jazeman 2nd in the Driver Classification at the end of the season, just one point behind Ali. James Grunwell (18/THA/CIMB Team Qi-Meritus), like Ali completing his second Formula BMW Asia season, finished 3rd in the Driver Classification, with Rookie Cup winner Mitchell 4th.

Jazeman.. asian recognize you as a "World class driver" Thumbs up

Doesn't look good for anyone involved.

Really, really bad for the reputation of the team especially.

Its just mind boggling! The report said team Meritus committed the same infringement during the Indon leg and now in rd 22....but no details on actually what is was about........what a shame when Meritus have a crop of very good drivers!

wonder why they want to do all these when they have good drivers? ain't trusting your drivers being fast enough?

..so any idea how this "not to spec stupid spring" will give them an unfair advantage?...serious enough to exclude them.

Its amazing how the scrutineers can detect this "not to spec spring".

I'm really only guessing here but slightly faster shifting possibly. Probably not worth an amazing amount over a single lap but over a race distance even 0.02 seconds a lap adds up in spec racing.

Of course it is possible that it was mistakenly put in the cars but there has to be some ill-intent one would think for them to be thrown out of the championship if that was likely?

naza wrote:

Nothing too amazing I wouldn't think. The scrutineers are supposed to be able to detect anything that is illegal. The gearbox is spec like the rest of the car and I think they only have a certain amount of gear sets they're allowed to use so they are checked fairly often.

I don't see how or why Nationality would have anything to do with it. The other driver wasn't Malaysian.

F1 can have their Spygate drama. So, not to be left out F BMW also have to create their own drama Eye I dunno....

Could've been a mistake, but in spec racing, everyone's spose to be the same, if not the same, whether give advantage or not, it's an illegal car.

I do remember reading in the Sunday Star an article in which Jazeman stated his practice and qualifying time was reduced because he had gearbox problems... I believe he lost about 30 minutes of track time whilst getting it fixed... so, now it seems like the "fix" has got him in a "fix"!

I'd love to know more details and justification as to how a mere spring could enhance his performance and give him the edge against others...

It is definitely a part that could improve performance - it effects how fast/efficiently the gears are selected.

As mentioned though it doesn't matter if it's performance enhancing or not. A driver could have a 300cc 40hp engine strapped in and win the race and even though he put himself at a massive disadvantage he'd still be dq'd for not meeting the tech regulations.

To dq the team from the entire championship though shows that the scrutineers probably felt it and the previous infraction were more than just honest mistakes.

Too bad for Jazeman to lose out because of two dq's but I'm sure he can challenge for the title next year again.

Just like Hami will next year.... McLaren, drop your cold fuel appeal! Stop wasting time!

But i guess, it's winter season, F1 needs some news to keep the interest there Eye Ha... Puzzled
