Recently I was visiting Petronas Karnival and while I'm wondering around my eyes was attracted to Petronas Go-Kart booth. So, I go and a pay a visit.
Yes, its a go kart developed by Petronas and Sauber to promote the motorsport to Malaysian youngsters and to make it affordable in the future. The go kart named K200 is a four stroke kart with single cylinder which produces 19hp. According to Zul (if I'm not mistake), who eventually is the one of the project member of Petronas K200 Go-Kart, the maximum speed is about 120km/h and its comparable to 100cc 2 stroke go kart. The kart was joined develop with Sauber at Hinwill and several thorough testing was done at Hinwill before the kart was shipped to Kuala Lumpur.
Suprising the size of the engine is small and simple, about 45 degree shape. The size is comparable to 2 stroke engine. Its like a 100cc engine but without an air box.
I witness footage of a driver, driving the kart at Sepang Go-Kart track and according to speedometer, the maximum speed at Sepang Go-Kart track was 90km/h. The sound of kart is much more different than normal four strokes (definitely lah ... hehehe). Funny is its like hearing a 'mat rempit' riding his honda EX5 in action at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.
Soon, Petronas will organize a kart grand prix which will specifically use K200. The grand prix is open to youngsters aged 12 to 18 years old. He doesn't know specifically when but the plan is within Petronas road map.
I interested to test the kart and Zul told me that they will organize a management team go-kart endurance that will use K200. I offered myself to be a marshal because at the end of the session, marshals will be given chances to test the kart. I passed my card to him and hopefully he will contact me when the time comes.
