CRG kart + PRD 100 cc for my-kart race series 2008
Guys and Gals,
...I met AP (Ah Piaw) late this afternoon just after work to revive talks on CRG kart package for my-kart races. You may remember before the June 16th my-kart club launch there was this near possibility of launching for the first time races on the nice CRG + 125 cc aircooled packge?.....of course it did not materialise as CK quoted rental price which we considered was quite a steep increase from the current price of 170.00 per driver. The subject went into hibernation until Fazz mentioned it again last weekened.
Anyway, AP threw a new option, ie, the CRG kart + 100 cc at a price of 180.00 per driver and EXCLUSIVE for my-kart races. However, he wants my-kart to commit to use these karts for at least 2 years. If agreeable he will prepare 10 karts + 3 karts as spare. He also proposed that the final my-kart race for 2007 to use these karts giving him sufficient time to do preparatory work from now.
If we feel that this is proposal is worthwhile, than we should shoot an email to CK as soon as possible (Luen?)

I concur... I will even be willing to sign a 2 year contract with my-kart stating that I would participate for the duration!!!
Just one thought though... quality of the 100cc engines? Whilst the chasis should be perfect for our racing, we don't to be running rough engines which lack power or have significant differences between karts. Is CK proposing new PRD engines?

Great this is being revived.....
Mark, you are right to be concerned on the engine. New engines will be too taxing but I would at least insist a clause on a complete rebuilt to standard specs for all engine, once every year!
Tyres? what about that but I must say the JYM or whatever we used once are ok ( esp for 100cc )
Keep me informed and be glad to advise on tech matters. ( sorry for silence, a new home takes plenty of all spare time...)
Good luck!

He mentioned that the engines are going to be new PRD 100cc type and tyres are JYMs. Jules suggestion that the engines should be rebuilt if they are not new at least once a year is indeed practical.
Luen, we can add the above as a condition in our email reply soon. Meanwhile lets hear views from others first.

thanks for this luen. agree with the document, but i thought the pricing would increase to RM170 in 2008 and then RM180 in 2009. also we need to make sure that there are no other commitments needed (eg. 6 enduro races etc). we will commit to 10 K2 races though. also the fee will be paid based on how many drivers in each event (sometimes we have only 8 drivers per sortie) and not on the the 10 machines + 3 spares made available.

Its currently 170 right? So, in return for the CRG + new 100cc PRD, he wants straight away 180 including ambulance service.
Agree that we can commit to 10 races per year BUT based on number of drivers available in each round and not 13 karts CK made available. The Enduro should not be in the calculation as response to this event is uncertain so far.

Folks, some update below:
AP threw yet another fire cracker into the CRG + 100cc package. He is seriously thinking of the option to offer my-kart the CRG + Rotax Max 125 Junior instead of the CRG + PRD 100 package. This is subject to him acquiring up to 12 Rotax Junior engines (he has already 6 units now), in time for my-kart Grand Finale on 1st December 2007 (Luen, better book this date early bro!)
....just wait for his reply to Luen's recent email.

for the same price? sounds good!

Last Sunday, some of you guys (Patrick, Luen, Desmond, Jack Soo, Ruben, Mumu....who else?) managed to 'hantam' CK's CRG/125 test kart a few laps each. So how did you find it? .....was it gooooodddzzzzzz?

»Nohad:
Patrick is excluded from the above list
becos mumu got frust that I refused to pay the premium price to keep the rain away, so he let the rain come after he lanyak the kart kau-kau.

Folks, some update on the CRG kart:
After trying out the CRG for a few laps (ahem!...some of us did more than just a few laps), Fazz and I finally got AP to say it. The 10 CRG karts will be ready to run in conjunction with our one off 2 hour enduro on December 1. Of course, whether we can actually run it on 1st December as a K1 trial event depends on your interest and response in this category.

great work to naza, luen, patrick and others to have been negotiating with AP all this while.

Btw Folks,
Assuming that races using the CRG karts will in fact be a reality come 1st December or in the round 1 of 2008, we need to discuss the pros and cons of the following:
1. Eligibility to participate
1.1 Only to my-kart members who have paid their current dues? However, there could be a possibility that this action could be seen by my-kart website members as 'elitist' perhaps?
1.2 The other option is to open it to all qualified drivers (will have to define "qualified drivers")but giving "good discounts" to kelab my-kart members with the intention to attract more members.
2. Selection of Drivers
2.1 Current K2 and K1 categorised drivers can qualify automatically
2.2 K3 drivers or others will need to satisfy my-kart committee / senior drivers
2.3 A my-kart committee to approve eligible drivers should formalised asap.
Please discuss.

»TheFazz:
eligibility - i would like to keep to paid members... not to be elitist, but will need some form of differentiation for those who have paid their dues. this is supposed to be a deal that should attract more paying members.
driver selection - agree with your suggestion on K2 and K1 eligibility and selection panel.

»Jules:
guys,
Not sure if it matters but here's my comment after a run in the kart last Sat.
- the kart set up was....none. Due to the power delivery of the Junior Max engine, your kart will snap into oversteer easily mid corner esp with these tyres. So best to have more grip at rear.
- otherwise, you need to be smooth n gentle with throttle to avoid the above, which to most who are exposed to rental karts - requires some seat time to familiarise.
- yes, ballast is needed for this class cos otherwise, dun bother cos you wun get a equal racing anymore.
cheers,
jules
