a1gp - 2007/08 season thread

a1gp moves into its third season starting from the Dutch GP at Zandvoort on 30 Sept 2007.

Who will succeed France & Germany as the a1gp champions for 2007/08? will france rebound? will germany strengthen its dominance?

what about team malaysia? will malaysia still be the top asian team and can malaysia challenge the top 3 teams and score a few more wins? with alex yoong leading the charge for the 3 year running, and supported by aaron lim and a new 3 year proton sponsorship, things seem to be looking up for team malaysia.

let's keep track of the season on this thread...

With the new points system, SA takes a strong early lead over GB with France in 3rd.

Malaysia had poor outing with setup and mechanical problems. Alex only managed to qualify 20th for the sprint due to setup issues... but finished 16th. However, mechanical failure put an end to the team's performance in the main feature race... retiring early on from 14th position.

Next race is in the Czech Republic in two weeks time. Brno circuit will host the second event of the 2007/08 calendar which takes place from 12-14 October 2007.

Malaysia had a bad outing, bummer. kudos to adrian zaugg though, he put in stellar performances. the good thing about alex is that you can count on him to never abuse his car. the safe road to glory, is the sure way to glory!

a piece of good news for the A1GP series is Ferrari providing the engines to all A1GP teams for the 2008/09 series.

Official: Ferrari and A1 GP confirm long-term partnership

11/10/2007

A1GP Chairman, Tony Teixeira, has announced a truly historic and ground breaking partnership between Ferrari and the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport.

Ferrari has signed a six-year agreement to manufacture and supply all A1GP engines for the series and will consult on the design and manufacture of all A1GP car chassis for use in Season Four (2008/09).

The partnership with Ferrari extends to an exclusive licensing agreement for all A1GP merchandise to use the Ferrari name and phrase 'Powered by Ferrari' from January 2008.

Commenting on the momentous deal, Tony Teixeira said: "Partnering with a world-class organisation like Ferrari will officially position A1GP as one of the most significant motorsport series' in the world."

The introduction of A2GP was also announced today, a regional single-seat racing car series developed by A1GP to begin testing in 2009. Ferrari will be integral to the growth of the new series and will again supply all engines and consult on the design and manufacture of the new chassis.

A1GP also maintained its commitment to commercial partners and fans as a principal factor in confirming the partnership. "Ferrari will add significant value to our brand and in our opinion there is no better partner to progress the series," adds Mr Teixeira.

"We will be meeting with our commercial partners over the next few weeks to discuss the multitude of exciting opportunities that this partnership presents."

Finally Tony Teixeira notes; "Ferrari has a global presence through its dealer network. We will be working closely with them to ensure that they are a part of every A1GP World Cup of Motorsport event."

so far A1 Team Malaysia has been having a torrid time with technical problems. disappointed with the first two races so far plagued with issues. hope that things turnaround quickly.

well done to Team NZ for clinching the double at Brno.

team malaysia scored its first 2 points of the season at sepang by finishing 9th in the sprint race - after qualifying a distant 19th.

the feature race was a little more eventful. from the 15th grid slot, alex yoong managed to get up to 9th within 2 laps. however, a second lap coming together with new zealand (as the black machine attempted to overtake and turn in on malaysia's bow) dropped malaysia down the field. a few laps of passing and progress through the field brought alex into 10th place until a tyre pressure problem dropped him back to 15th.

still malaysia showed good pace during both the sprint and feature races... hopefully qualifying would be better next round.
