Round 07, K3 race report - Tom Tan now title favourite after fourth win
Saturday, 6 August 2005
Shah Alam Stadium Kart Circuit (CW)
Tom Tan scored another dominant win in round 7 with his third perfect score of the season and his fourth consecutive win of 2005. The absence of his main challengers, Khairul Hizam Isaac & Henzee made his path to the 2005 championship clearer than before. This further consolidates Tom's championship lead with 106 points, which is 29 points more than current second place man Khairul and 48 points more than third placed Henzee, both absent from round 7.
Faiz Sullivan and newcomer Zainuddin Zainal finished second and third in round 7 with M Razmyn A Rahman, Edy Hazry Daud and Zoolhilmi Mohd completing the top 6 drivers.
Although the top two positions in K3 are relatively strong, the battle for third overall is hotly contested by 6 drivers:
- Henzee (58)
- Faez Sullivan (57)
- Zoolhilmi Mohd (56)
- Irwan (Cardula) (56)
- Edy Hazry Daud (55)
- M Razmyn A Rahman (49)
Top qualifying honours went to Tom and Razmyn - both of them winning twice each.

a very good fun race today...had a good kart but unfortunately unable to capitalise after I spun while avoiding zool who spun right in front of me...went right into the grass just before the S turns...lucky for me, I managed to get the kart back on track & that it happened on the first lap...slowly worked my way up & managed to get 4th overall...hehehe..thanks to eddy who was such a gentleman giving me a space to overtake him just before the chequered flag...(hehehe...must be the currypuffs at work...hahaha
) thanks edd

Once again... missed making it into K3 Final A by just 2 places
I feel it was caused by a combination of factors, getting a really bad kart for qualifying 1, not being quick enough, having too many pros like tom tan in my group, sigh....
my favourite was the last 4 laps of qualifying rnd 2 where I had to hold Luen off by driving very defensively hehehe.
Can't wait for the next race.

getting a really bad kart for qualifying
1) True, getting a bad kart during qualifying really kills your chance (but sadly this clause somehow doesn't apply to Tom Tan). If you don't qualify in top 4 in any of the heats, then you are practically out of final A. (Unless miracles like Tom Tan, Khairul, Razmyn, Alex, Faez dropping out like flies happened (at the same time too) during qualifying *grin*.)
I don't know about you guys but I somehow still feel the old karts handles better & faster (except for a couple of real lousy ones. what to do lah - luck loh). (Feedback - Kart 8 is lousy (very poor top end). Ask Yan for his opinion - he drove it during finals A).
2) not being quick enough
Sigh... must the nice curry puff supplied by Razmyn and lost a minimum of 0.35 secs per lap due to that.
Looks like I have to lose 3kgs in weight over the next 3 weeks so that tucking in the curry puffs would not slow me down that drastically on the straights.
3) Can't wait for the next race.
Me too.

actually i got confused (i think all of us did) with the lap count... i thought there was at least 1 more lap to go,and when i glanced behind and saw razmyn almost on the grass i moved to my left to give him some space as he had a good momentum. he managed to pass me and just as i thought,ok i'd get him back on this last lap when suddenly i saw the chequered flag being waved, and razmyn was just like one wheel ahead of me...!
damn... if i had known we were sprinting for the flag i would have moved to the RIGHT and he'd have to make like a cow and eat grass... hahaha!
s*it... the blardi karipaps really do work... hi razmyn,oh you're behind me,pls pls do overtake & hv a nice day... s*it!!! aaarrrggghhh!!!

saw someone from K3 visiting the ambulance after one of the races.....hope it's a minor cut and all's well.
K3 drivers drive harder than K2......cabut!

sorry about that. was busy taking down the positions on the record sheet and only realised the lap display was not correct when I walk over to flip it over.
Never mind, I'll let you overtake me for 1 lap before I overtake you back in the next race on rd8.

Yes I must admit that although I got a really bad kart for qualifying 1, I felt that I wasn't pushing it to it's limits. I believe if I drove better I could have gone maybe 1 - 2 sec quicker per lap. 2 bad la i'm not Michael Schumacher....

»TheFazz:
1-2sec per lap faster is not impossible... but quite a stretch. Perhaps Schumi can do it. But what may be useful is to test with some of the sifoos like Jules.

2 - 3 secs faster ? can one....take short cut! On the same kart - maybe 1 second difference on driver skills alone is possible. More....not ec unless one is newbie and the other...old kaki.
i think one day we should swap karts for the classes......we should do that one event for the fun of it....
Dun be surprised that the K2 guys could be struggling to keep up with the experienced K3 drivers! And I wun bet that a K2 guy will win each time!

By the way, what will be the ideal weight for karting. Myself "kerb weight" 73kg, with full accessories on touching 76kg
When i had good results but that kart was really really superb tuned. Loosing so much on the straight otherwise.

»Jules:
Luen,
For fun karting, the ideal weight is NO WEIGHT!!!! dun worry, we in K2 also got to content with super featherweight drivers.....we just try to outdrive them & outlast them-loh!
....since they so lite, if they kena hantam from behind also fly further.....SHHHHH!!! dun say I give u any ideas!
he he! pls remember only 1st para.

Very true. Very frustrating to see all the hard overtaking work done at the corners is wasted on the straights.
For 80cc, looks like the max weight should be 65kg. Anything more than that is a deficit (power to weight ratio). Bear in mind, the 80cc is meant for cadet class (below 12 yrs old). Same as a Wira 1.5 engine driving a Perdana.
For 100cc, it is OK to be 75kg as the power to weight ratio is not too bad.

»Jules:
u guys not reading my thread rite...
there is NO IDEAL WEIGHT for fun karting....75kgs for 100cc? ha ha, then what do you do with people less than 55 kgs driving a 100cc?
there's never a ideal limit cos the best weight is NOTHING!!!!! Paling ringan, paling laju...everywhere!

weight important man.. just look at me during the starts... pratically overtaking everyone by the first corner hehehe. it's either that or u guys not warming up your tyres enough or reving your engines to make sure they r hot like pancakes kekeke. like F1 mah. anyways, i do find the new 80cc karts to be more equally balanced ito engine n overall handling - so, it might be a good idea to look at the new ones next season or so. but need to go bargain hard wif citikarting. or get everyone into K1 so we'll hv a larger field. but if can make K1 $$$ somewhat equal to the price of K3 that'll be perfect... just my thoughts... n finally, really enjoyed all MyKart races thus far... n replyin to an earlier Pan Global stmt on needing to be a policy holder, not true. cos i'm ain't one but i went in to compete oso. hmmm... hope they don ban me in the grandfinals. keke.

»razmyn:
agree with tom here..the new engine karts are definitely better...& more balanced...i mean not much different between karts performance...no longer do we see a certain kart zoom pass everyone & leave them in its wake & dust(this does not apply to tom tan ..of course!!!)..but now I noticed that even for the frontrunners..they have to actually fight to the cheuqered flag with others...rd 7 in particular..there were 5 karts passing the finish line with only a few secs in between them..with tom having to fight faez for the top spot( & edd giving me way
)...I guess it might be a good move to use the newer karts after this..but..still...cost must be a big consideration here...must not be too big a jump in fees...

Yup...I agree that the K3 races are becoming 'closer' lately.
In particular Rd7 was a real close fight.
Still kicking myself for letting Razmyn pass though... groan!
