TheFazz:
well done to all drivers for completing the whole race.
i certainly enjoyed the race right from start to finish. with Xuzonne trailblazing away, it was left to the group of 5 comprising Faiz, Razak, Mark, Zul and Patrick to dog fight all the way. For the first 15 minutes these 5 were separated by less than a second between 2nd and 6th.
the first pitstop split the group as faiz and razak both made very early stops... but lost about 5 seconds in the pits to the others. It was Zul and Patrick that made the best pit stops as both of them leapfrogged the battling duo of Razak (oldest) and Faiz (youngest). Mark did make a good stop but still remained behind the two. So for the remainder of the race, Zul and Patrick had their private battle together all the way to the chequered flag.
Behind them Faiz was holding Razak and Mark for the longest of times until fatigue got the better of him about 10 minutes from the end of the race when both Razak and Mark slipped by when Faiz started going wide on many of the corners.
it was an excellent race from a spectator point of view. shame that we did not have any TV and commentator coverage.

For the 1st 15 minutes,I was basically pacing myself. Mark & myself even have time to pretend we are having a puff while on the straights.
Started at 4th but Faiz & Mark passed me during the start, no problem with that as it is a long race. Kept behind Mark for quite a few laps while watching the dogfight between Faiz, Razak & Zul (+ feeling no pressure becos nobody is behind me). Noticed that Xuzonne has started to disappear into the horizon and I decided to quicken my pace. Passed Mark and started to push the trio. Zul & Razak managed to pass Faiz and started to break away a little from him. Pressured Faiz a little and he started to make a bit of mistakes by going wide but his kart no.15 is very much faster on the straights and I couldn't overtake him. At one stage of the preliminary VietCong pressure tactic I applied on Faiz, he made a mistake at turn 3 and bogged me down and Mark overtook me on the straights. With me not pressuring Faiz, the 3 of us managed to catch up to Zul & Razak again. I couldn't remember when I overtook Mark again but I right up behind Faiz & Razak + Zul again.
)
Saw the green flag for the pitstop window OPEN but undecided to stay out or pit-in as I was stucked behind the 3 of them. When I saw Razak & Faiz pitted-in, I decided to stay out longer and put-in a few quick laps with Zul being my target. Zul pitted-in a couple laps later and I decided to go for another lap in order not to get caught in pit-lane congestion. Pitted-in and made a mistake by stopping completely as my kart struggles to get going once stopped. Came out of the pits and yeaahhhh!!! found Faiz, Razak & Mark just coming out of turn 3 when I was exiting the pitlane. At least now I have the 3 of them behind me but where is Zul? Sh*t! He is easily 50 meters ahead of me! (Found out later that he had 2.5secs faster pit-stop then me
Now with Zul as my target, I started reel-in Zul slowly and managed to catch-up with him. Knowing that the race is only 1/2 way through, I have to preserve my rear tyres but at the same time cucuk Zul a bit just in case he don't doze off but at the same time keeping a watchful eye on the status Faiz, Razak & Mark racing position. Seeing them a good 100meters away only made me apply a bit more pressure on Zul.
In for the 2nd pitstop and when I came out, I found Zul quite a distance away in front (he had a 4secs faster pitstop
). I started to chase him thinking it is a 50 minutes endurance and I have only 12 minutes to catch-up & overtake him. So I piled-on the pressure (even trying out Edwyn's wind cheating style) and managed to catch-up to him. I kept on piling the secret VietCong pressure tactic on Zul hoping that he make some mistakes somewhere. Sad to say that he faster on the straights (6kg handicap
) but I pile on the pressure on every corner.
Caught-up with the back markers and hoping that the opportunity to overtake Zul could happen here. But alas, it didn't materialised.
When the 50 minutes is up but the chequred flag is nowhere to be seen, I knew it is going to be 60 minutes race. I tried to pressure Zul at every corner but he managed to close the line.
Tough race but well worth the money spent.
Strangely at the end of the race, I still find myself physically & mentally fit. Must be the Old Town Ice blended white coffee-Mocha doing the trick
.

Yesterday was a blast, I've never experienced a dogfight which lasted for one hour straight Phewww......
Qualifying I managed to get 3rd on the grid, once Luen waved the green flag we're off... Xuzonne was like a wild stallion galloping across the open field leaving Faiz, Abg Ajak, me, Mark & Patrick chased him from behind. The three of us (Faiz, Abd Ajak & me) were swapping places for few times until the first pit window open
hahaha.... it was a dream came true seeing Faiz & Abg Ajak pitted soo early, don't want to waste the opportunity so I pushed very hard and decided to pit 2 laps later. My race engineers did well... my pit stop was great (thanks guys…) was able to exit the pit area way ahead of the pack (but no sign of Xuzonne) yahoooo!! …. But it was not too long when I start realizing that Patrick aka “Viet-kong” was putting pressure on me (berpeluh bang… this man is a tough nut to crack) again when the pit window open the mechanic was doing wonders…. Managed to pit even quicker than the first one
Minutes after my second pit stopped my left foot was numb due to the vibrations and yet again the “Viet-kong” was shadowing all my moves…. (tak kasi can langsung lah ini orang) so the only thing I could do was to tighten up my lines… and even forcing him to follow my pace at every corners and breaking away at the long straight (thanks Patrick… our dogfight was the best ever for me) basically I prayed really hard so that the endurance would ended quickly as Patrick was really giving me a hard time!!
Kudos to the race Marshalls & all racers for completing the first Iron (wo)man endurance!!

.
NO body ache at all.

The best for me too. Wow, nearly 1 hour of dogfight and still feeling fresh after the race. A great personal achievement
Now have to follow the Vietnamese dieting seriously (basically meaning eating more raw vege) to lose another 3-4kg within the next 3 months to be more competitive.
