Becoming a Pro Racer
Im sure anyone who is a fanatic of racing dreamnt of becoming a Professional Racing Driver and I am no exeception..
I love racing,racing is my life, my life revolves around racing but the main problem is becoming a Professional Racer in this country is almost impossibile due to the lack of sponsorship
If you compare to countries in europe and south america, getting sponsors there is not as diffulcult as getting it here
I beleive that this country have number of drivers who are talented but couldn't pursue their dream due to lack of sponsors
So, that's why only the super-rich are able to pursue this dream as their parents have a big enough pockets to sponsors their son overseas to race there and easire chances to get sponsors and more importanly better chances of becoming an F1 driver
What I really hope in the future, is that someday this will all change
so people who are talented but don't have the money to go further be able to get sponsors for them to live up their dream and also for me to live up my dream 2

We all can dream - but can I ask if anyone of us are THAT TALENTED enough to be given a SPONSORSHIP?
Are we disciplined enough to train DAILY to be one, brave enough to make this a career, hungry enough to race at every chance ( any class ), bothered enough to even start learning from very basic ( ie, cleaning ur kart, equipment )? I did some of the above and still am no where
You need all this even when you have a super rich father to buy you all the rides. At end, its a SPORTS - not a dream, not a ego ride, not a DECENT female attracting pursuit. PERIOD.
In Europe, the boys start like most of us - fun karts, then private karts, racing on club, then national and then european level. The advantage they have is - they have races practically 50% of the year. So they get lotsa practise, lotsa racing and lotsa track time. Be assured, many dun make the cut too to higher levels. Its only whenyou win enough, sponsor take note and then want to sponsor you. Not everyone ends up like kimi, lewis, button, heiki and they are all kart champions. You heard of Bas Lammers? Super talented, super dedicated ( runs 10km daily, works in SH factory and track operator ) but still no where today, as I heard. ( Left sport or so I was told.... )
Talking abt dedication, tho Europe is not that big but some travel & sacrfice a lot for their pursuit. In regards to travelling - imagine in Australia....they drive for more than 8 hours, reach track - go race, finish race SUnday nite, father drive home - u sleep in car and next monday, go school. Can u hack that? Here, we moan abt driving to KB....or Langkawi! Actually, very few drivers drive, they fly!
Sorry to bring you crashing down on your dreams ( hey, like u say - its mine too and every speed hungry fella reading this now )
sponsorship builds FROM a certain mass and if we dun have that mass and the correct public acceptance of the sports.....no need talk further. ( hope u understand my meaning )

I totally agree on Jules statement, even though it do look like pouring devil666 hopes and dreams down the drain. It will need heaps of hardwork to get somewhere. Let's not dream so far 1st to being a F1 Driver. Let's dream closer to something, one can achieve. World Kart Champion! If you really need to be somewhere, be there 1st I reckon. And heaps and heaps of sacrifice that you will need to make.

There are a few youngster that are currently running at RMC has the opportunity to be sponsored to drive a formula car. They might look glamor to most of us, but we all know how much effort they have put in; to be at where they are now.

actually there are two issues here:
1/ mainstream acceptance of the sport - to attract sponsors
2/ personal drive to achieve ambitions
one without the other is no use. actually, the question of ease in one country to another is not as straightforward. it is difficult in malaysia because karting / racing does not have mainstream appeal. but similarly in europe, where it is more acceptable - the competition is lot stiffer: so even if you are good, you may still miss out.
either way, personal drive and sacrifices (including financial) are necessary to achieve these ambitions. i thing we know this. racing is not an easy sport to reach the pinnacle... after all, only 22 drivers (out of tens of thousands) get to race in F1 at any one time. the modern racing driver needs to be the full package. having natural skills isn't enough... a driver must be technically competent. technical and driving skills is not enough too... a modern racing driver must have good communication and pr skills. all this is not enough too... as a driver needs to be mentally strong as well as physically fit. all this comes from discipline & drive.
as for mainstream appeal... we have to start somewhere. the country is still fairly young in terms of motorsports. so lets' do our part to make the sport more mainstream. at least that is what my-kart aims to do.

Well, if you are keen - do join more my-kart racing, be willing to learn, ask, toil and find the correct package and go more serious racing. We are surely keen to see another My-Karter reaching the highest echolon in motorsports.

I don't think it's a harsh response from you at all Jules. I totally agree with everything you had to say. The best example that I can relate to is not on four wheels but two instead.
__________________________A number of years back Petronas was running a 250cc Moto Gp team and they had two riders for their final season which was Shahrol Yuzy (Malaysian) and Sebastian Porto (Argentina). Earlier on Yuzy always complained on not having A class factory bikes. Then finally Petronas got him his wish. But no results at all even when the best machinery was given. Why? Some people will say that even if Yuzy had factory bike which was a Yamaha at that time, It still couldn't match the likes of an Aprilia or Honda. So the critics were all quiet until Sebastian Porto's couple of wins and podiums and most of the the time he was in the lead pack fighting it out with the big boys. Then suddenly Petronas pulled out of Moto Gp to go to World Superbikes. Weird for such a big company to go to a lower class when you're one step away from the premier class in Moto Gp (No offense to all Superbike owners).
So what Jules had to say for me was just plain reality folks!
