Reflections on my-KART Driver Race 5

Although it was a frustrating race ending up with only 2 championship points for yours truly, I was actually pleased that the whole event went really smoothely despite having 7 groups, or 21 races, to manage, we managed to finish the event within 5 and a half hours, or an average of 16 mins per group! Amazing! Thanks to all the my-KART committee and volunteers who made this possible!

Now, on to my race. Heat 1 was a minor disaster for me. I was 5th on the grid, and started behind Naza and beside Ashraff, and things went well during the warm up lap, until we approached the green flag.

Naza started to slow down, which lead me to believe that there was some nepotism and cronyism at play here since his son was on P1, hence Abah was giving Junior special privileges but at the expense of poor, innocent rakyat like myself...hmm...this is sounding like a political blog all of a sudden!

Anyway, Abah did nothing of the sort - in fact, he encountered engine trouble, and I took 2 seconds too late to realise that, and being in K1, every second counted, so I lost at least 5 kart lengths to Ashraff upon crossing the start line.

That left me 2nd from last, on a lonely race, enjoying the scenery, etc etc....HENCE, Mr Mumu, that's why I didn't know the brakes were crappy and didn't tell you about it!....I was not under pressure or had to brake competitively... Sticking out tongue

I was 7th on the grid for the 2nd Heats, and had a better start but starting from near the back, was left in the trailing pack. I remember overtaking Pelumba Haram at the parabola in a sweet overtaking manoeuver, demonstrating how well set up my kart was compared to his, but could not catch up with the Vietnamese Beef Noodle guy in front of me! Wasn't a great finish either.

No surprises, I ended up in Final B, 2nd on the grid, with Faiz Annuar on my right on pole. It was a sweet start, and I managed to overtake Faiz right after the start finish line and capture 1st place at the first corner.
However, my lead was shortlived, as I made a stupid move going into the long straight. As I entered the straight in a leading position, I don't know what possessed me to swing to the right, which allowed Faiz to zoom pass me on my left, followed very closely by Abang Naza!

Aiyoyooo...Abg Naza then swung behind me, and passed me on the right, and leaving me defending a 3rd position going into the next corner. From then on it was a pretty frustrating race, with Faiz in front, and I believe the Lobster man was catching up behind me but not threatening me on bit...honestly, he was weight disadvantaged compared to me so it was no worries for me! Smiling

Hence, 14th place for AJK Makan in the 4th K1 outing for 2008, and now down to 10th place on the championship points, having lost 9th place to, urggghh,, of all people, Ashraff "Johnny Walker" Dewal! How will I live this down??

Anyway, I was feeling hungry and hot all day, and even now at 11.35pm, still hungry despite a fairly decent dinner.

Hmm..maybe this will help... http://www.friedchillies.tv Eye

naza:

Sorry bro for causing you to lose a lot of positions at the start of heat 1. The engine suddenly spluttered and lost power just as we were approaching the start line but I did raise my hand....maybe a tad too late eh?. There goes my hope of making amends for that disastrous outing in the previous round........ah well, need to ask Patrick where is the cheapest mandi bunga joint...lol! Smiling

Not a good round for me either… but ok lah.

Q1 A:
Started on pole again alongside Ramsey. Had a good getaway as Ramsey was caught sleeping when he slowed at the green flag. So I managed to keep my distance from then on and maintained it till chequered flag. Full 20 qualifying points in the bag.

Q2 A:
Now starting from the very end of the pack. Everybody went through turn 1 smoothly. Then managed to squeeze through traffic from the outside. Few spots up front on the straights and caught up with Mark and Naza in 4th and 5th and me in 6th. Three of us were battling all the way for the rest of the laps and had our fair chances of overtaking each other and probably a few bumps too. In the end, Naza were ahead of me and then Mark. Fuhh… A hard earned 5th placing after a tough fought battle.

Final A:
Qualified on third grid behind Jules & Ashraff. Started pretty ok, but lost a place or two as we came to the straights and everyone was like so close to each other. My kart was having some oversteer problems so I had tough time controling my speed around corners. Somehow managed to have some close battles with Fazz and Ramsey for the first few laps, until I climbed all over Fazz on his rear wheels. That made me lost momentum and everyone behind quickly zoomed past me. Fell behind Mumu and Tarmizi. The view is crazy from back here… It was so intense between all, in a line moving just like a snake. Ashraff who fell behind from start was sliding all around the track, was then by my side at one time until he pushed me off to the grass in the corner before the final straights. I lost all my positions by then until the flag... It was another tough race with all the humping and bumping around.

Fairly abit disappointing outing for me on a yet eventful 10th place finishing. Wait for my comeback win Sticking out tongue
