my overall race was fairly ok considering, although i had expected a bit more going in.
1st qualifying:
my first qualifying race was pretty ok. however, i was watching the earlier race when shaeran was driving my kart. he seemed to have grip problems which got me concerned. i knew that i had problems living with the low grip tyres. i just couldn't get comfortable on it.
i started on the front row alongside muhaymin. my start was ok, although muhaymin remained ahead of me a few corners after the start. but i had a target to jump into the lead before the end of the first lap in order for me to have any chance of finishing up the order. and did all i could to jump muhaymin and managed it before end of lap one. once in the lead, i had to do all i could to stay ahead as muhaymin and others were not giving up. i think desmond bumped me a few times. i had to brake a lot earlier than i would like because i could not handle the low grip tyres and did not want to be a sitting duck on exit of corners.
i had the sense that practically the whole grid were queued up behind me. i think three laps from the end i noted somebody trying to pass me at the 1st hairpin. on the penultimate lap, i fell asleep slightly and neglected to notice that jules (who started last row) was attacking me at the parabolica, and pounced me on the inside as i left a slight gap. i had lost the lead i fought so hard to keep, but had to concentrate further as i knew that there were others waiting to capitalise. luckily, i held to second until the checquered flag.
2nd qualifying:
second qualifying was not as great for me. starting from 10th and moving up was going to be a tall order. still the start was good for me again. at the entrance into the main straight, i had the opportunity to gain a few places as a couple of karts tangled. i had a battle with a bunch of others, but couldn't handle them so dropped to 7th at the finish. still acceptable considering where i started, although i was running in 5th at one point.
final:
the final race was better than expected. i was starting behind major buayas: jules and ashraff were on the front row. then it was danny and ramsey on the second row. i was starting alongside tarmizi. this was going to be a difficult challenge.
i made good progress at the start and moved up quickly. i was soon battling ramsey and danny for a few laps. on occassion i was leading them, and on others i would fall back. after a few laps, i managed to get ahead of both of them when they tangled slightly. however, i was soon attacked by desmond who got past. ashraff's problems also help me move up. finished 3rd in the end behind the relentless jules and rear-humping desmond was not a bad result.
all this helped me move up one more position to 5th in the overall 2008 ranking.

Having missed Rd 4 is I was pretty eager to get back in the thick of the action and hopefully regain some points. Sadly, I only managed to clock up 1 meagre point!!
1st qualifying:
I had an excellent start and managed a respectable place on the first corner which I was hoping I’d at worst be able to maintain from there. I came out of the third turn leading into the long straight when I suddenly experienced a total loss of power and pulled over to the side of the track. I realised fairly quickly my battery terminal had come off and struggled to fix it back on… my clumsy gloves got in the way. I removed the gloves, fixed the terminal, put the gloves on again, started the engine and BANG! The kart misfired and died again… but it was for no apparent reason, I started the engine again and was able to rejoin the race, albeit half a lap down. After 3-4 laps cruising on my own I passed Naza who was sitting patiently at the track edge [at this point I had a HUGE grin concealed behind my helmet]. I think Naza also had battery problems. A few turns later I saw Shaeran in trouble and the grin reappeared… unfortunately for me, no one else had any problems and I just inherited the 2 places from the end across the chequered flag.
2nd qualifying:
KARMA [definition : “an act, action or performance is the concept of action or "deed" understood as that which causes the entire cycle of cause and effect”
I had to reflect back over 2 or 3 rounds back when Ashraff had a problem with an ‘erect’ nosecone throughout his race… I laughed and laughed at the circumstances he had to deal with and had immense pleasure ridiculing him after the race.
OK, I’ll carry on with my race report and you’ll quickly discover the relevance of Karma. I had another good start and came out of turn 1 in a very respectable second place. By turn 3 I was being attacked from all angles and lost 2 places (to Tarmizi and Ramsey I think), but I managed to hold my position and was (accidently) nudging Tarmizi on occasions and trying my best to apply as much pressure to him as possible. Tarmizi braked hard for the turn before the ‘esses’ and I was still accelerating (due to my excellent brakes) when I nudged Tarmizi’s rear bumper quite hard and caused my nose cone pin to break off… at this point I was being challenged from behind by 2 seasoned buayas, Danny and Naza. Danny managed to pass me and I quickly ‘pissed on his fireworks’ and took the position back. Then I was being pressured by Naza and had to do some seriously intensive defending of my line. All was well, I kept him at bay up until the final lap when he out manoeuvred me and slipped past. Not willing to give up my position so easily I took the inside line of the corner and tried to squeeze Naza to the outside when all of a sudden…. BOING!!! My nosecone popped up directly in my line of vision, Naza was accelerating off, Danny Chooz also slipped past and I was now down from 4th to 6th place… I held 6th place for the rest of the lap up to the chequered flag with a fully flapping nosecone which randomly decided to pop up… everytime the nosecone popped up, I wasn’t seeing a black and orange nosecone with a CRG logo, I was seeing a vision of Ashraff laughing at me… KARMA!!
Final:
Well, as you guessed, based on the above I was in the Group B final. [KARMA rears its ugly head again… Bombe was also in the Group B final and Bombe was using our shared kart so I needed to find an available kart. I had a choice of 2 and low and behold the one I selected belonged to Ashraff!! Was I going to end up doing the walk of shame????
I had a reasonable start to the race and positioned myself in 5th place behind the Viet Con who was defending his line with absolute precision and not giving an inch to spare. I knew I had enough power to pull alongside him but I couldn’t get past. At this point I was being really pressured from behind and knew I had to get past Patrick or risk losing my position as well. It wasn’t until around lap 4 or 5 when I seized my opportunity, passed him and started to close the gap towards AJK Makan. The gap was getting closer but just not close enough and I crossed the chequered flag in 4th place and took home 1 more point to add to my embarrassing 10 points collected so far this season!!

Hello!...my Mark Salleh friend...if you care to review that grainy video footage of K1 Final B (Not the Correct! Correct! Correct! one...this one posted by Chooz), you were NOWHERE NEAR the AJK Makan!...in fact, I think the gap widened throughout the race....on the contrary, you were really close to being "ngapped" by the driver behind you...

It's collect collect collect... just that the camera angle is deceptive!! The gnapper behind me was Jason... at one point he gave me a hard nudge and after that he seemed to disappear (i better check teh video again to be sure).
Maybe we could enagage our very own my-kart CSI, John Stewart to carry out a forensic investigation

Thanks to all for a safe and enjoyable race meet. Somehow, I dun recall too much of the duels I had on track and this is likely due to my advancing age. Anyhow, for those i recall, here's my Race Report.
Q1 :
Started alongside Brian, behind Bombe - somewhere in the back. Everyone was so busy warming their tyres and I must say - my race almost ended there but I will comment on this separately. At the flag fall, I went into the 2nd bend 3 abreast and I think it was bombe on the inside and Zul on the outside. Thank goodness, we did not touch so thanks to you for keeping it together. I recall having passed Desmond as he has a fondness of weaving across track on main straight to block.....so i made the overtaking quick and sweet at the hairpin. ( if I recall correctly ) I caught up with Mumu and gave him the most courteous overtaking manner I can think off....by waving him a thanks as i pass while "squeezing" him..ha ha. 2nd was handed over to me, when Faiz(?) half spun and as Fazz has said, I took him at the parabolica entry when he left a gap open.
Contrary to what you all think, I had to work hard for this. The kart was, handling badly and the KARMA nose cone was bent toward my brakes - blocking my foot, which made my braking erratic at best.
Q2 :
Starting at front made it easier and I recall having to make sure Raymond kept up and we had a good equal start. At the 1st bend, I recall making sure I left Raymond enough room to go around.....and that was the last I recall of the race. The chassis was still loose and to make matter worse - the engine sounder worse than Q1. The tot of a walk of shame did come across my mind a few times....so i also eased off at end.
Finals :
Lucky me, I started on the front on the inside. I must say I had a moment on the 1st lap.....broad sliding into the esses and I am sure those behind me tot that was that for me.....thankfully, i recovered and persevered to the end. The engine sounded even worse and all I can say is I eased off 2 - 3 laps from home. For this reason alone - I did not want to dice with anyone, hence sorry to Desmond. ( i will dice with you in KKS races, anytime )
Perhaps for those who were keen, observed that...
1) I was constantly trying to adjust my kart....for a better rear end grip which my co-driver Jason even found nervous.
2) even had my hands full trying to find out the reason for the very bad and rough running of the engine, which I tot was broken gears but after the effort of removing the engine - I found nothing. So i drove on praying it will hold.
3) last of all, I never gave up chasing all of you and even with my own set of issues....I gave it 100%. So maybe this old dog a bit more stubborn-lar.
So the wins I had that day was nothing magical - it's that I worked on the kart more-lor both in set up and driving. ( and the things we did helped thankfully )
A WORD OF SAFETY
On the warm up laps - as mentioned above, many were weaving dangerously and I can only advise all doing this to do it HALF the track, on ONE side and make sure you check your rear to see where the other guy is before weaving in and out.
I almost collected Bombe ( not his fault ) cos someone stop very abruptly when we were in formation. On Q2, Brian has to even stop Yusnee ( if I am not wrong ) from weaving cos I cannot even drive pass to my allocated grid. In the finals, I blasted out cos I dun want to be caught like that hence my "flyer" on warm-up. Sorry Bro Naza....
All in all, apart from the warm-up procedure - all you have improved in driving skills and discipline. Specifically, My-Kart racing esp K1 class is still the closest you can get to real races and you can ask Mikko's comment.
Anyone who wants to go real racing and dun join My-Kart racing is beyond my comprehension. PERIOD.

Hhahaha Jules, u are really poisioning me into KKS huh..
