what are they doing?

recently, during the MyKart round 6, i saw some of the karters "jumpinh" in their karts and some of them did seem to go a little bit faster. What is the real purpose of it? does it in some way enhance the performance of the kart? just curious

What are they doing? Well, basically jumping after the corner does help a tenth of a second if you do it the right way. But you only do it once. Sometimes doing it at the wrong corner or too many times will eventually slow you down.

What is the purpose? As we all know that the 80cc kart are slow with their pick ups. The slight jump basically reduce the weight on the back. As we all know that all karts are rear wheel drive. So the back wheel basically pushes you and your kart forward.

When you have a heavy load on the back, it takes a longer time for the kart to gain that extra kick to push you forward. So a little jump makes the weight on the back lighter, so that you get an extra kick for the pick up.

But bear in mind that once you jump up, what goes up must come down. Sometimes the weight that you put on after that little jump is even heavier than you sitting still. The best is just to lean forward.

If there is a mistake in my explanation, please correct me.

I find it's mainly useful in a few corners if you're having problems with excessive rear grip. You basically get the rear end to lose grip for a fraction of a second allowing for a bit of wheel spin to free up the kart and the engine.

I once had a really really bad bog out of a corner in Sepang. When the "jump" worked (got the rear to spin) it gave me almost 2 tenths Shocked ... when it didn't it was the same as if I didn't jump.

Done really only when you're still turning because in a straight line the engine doesn't get bogged down by excessive rear grip.

Sticking out tongue very funny.....and pls let me weight your leg on the 5th july. if it doesn't match it, probably I will cut it and tie-up some ballast on to it till becomes 48 kg. ha..ha...ha...

INTERESTING, got to try that....

......but not applicable for mykarters cos their tyres.....no grip.
