sad to hear that desmond khoo's team didnt managed to reach the chequered flag with only 10 minutes to go with strong 2nd position lead in class B due to transmission failure.
For those who attended this year's MME, in whatever capacity, whether as driver, pit crew, official or model escort (ahem!), please post your experiences in this thread.
I was there representing my-KART, and supporting all my-KARTers in whichever team they were in, and had two lovely Tangerine models to help with the encouragement too..
Spotted these my-KARTers throughout the morning:
In pit 29
- Angeline Ooi : Driver for Team HPC-ZTH
- Alvin Joseph : Manager
- Brian Eravelly: Driver
- Izrul Bombe: Refueller
- Mark Timms : Pom pom boy & Dato Ilyas' punching bag...
- Abg Zul: Cigarette distributer
- Fabian Yee: Photographer
Around the pit areas:
- Edwyn Low - Official, and got bicycle too!
- Suhazlan - not sure if he's in a team...but walking around
- Ashraff Dewal : Empire Motorsports Lotus 2-Eleven. Actually leading Class A until tyre fell off 30 mins before chequered flag...aiyooo...luckily it was Denis Lian who did the walk of shame....
On the grid:
- Luen: Team Mgr - he was so engrossed and briefing his team, I wonder if he noticed me standing next to him??
- Tarmizi: Pit crew for Luen...
- Desmond Khoo: Driver - apparently DNF 15 mins before chequered flag?
- Huffiz Fahro Rozi - Driver..finished or not?
Anyone else I missed out? Anyway, would be good if you could share your experiences..especially Edwing...tell us how u got the official pass and bicycle!!!
I wasn't able to make it to SIC as I had family matters to attend too. However I did catch about 10 minutes after the start on RTM1 around noon, which mainly showed a couple of Porches blasting around.
I tuned in again around 10.30pm hoping to see the closing laps and the finish. Switching between RTM1 and 2, I spotted Julian's wife being interviewed on RTM2 and thought great, this is it. However it was only a documentary, and the next 1 1/2 hours was spent watching various artist's singing to what seemed to be an unresponsive audience, MME seems to have been forgotten.
Well, Luen was the one who took the Official Pass for me. Thanks mate. With that pass, I can be anywhere on the track except being on the track. The bicycle was in the pit, belongs to one of the crew of Team Titan Racing. Borrow it so I can cycle around the track. Was at every corner of the track, up close and personal with the cars, the girls, and everything while everyone was either being at the paddock or just on their seats.
But everything has a price, being under the hot sun and killing your ears with those roaring sounds from the car. It was a nice day out~ You get to learn different techniques of racing when you are so close to them.. thanks for all the tips drivers out there!!
Other my-karters / my-karters wives who were driving were Norlina (Red Bull Rookies) and James Higgins and Ben Shalders (Pit 10). Then after a fulfiling wings session at CK, Abg Naza arrived too.
We retired 15 mins before the chequered flag. We were in 2nd spot leading the 3rd spot by 2 laps ahead ! but oh well Shit happens at the very last minute.
Better luck next year .. !! we will strike back again !.
Oh man.. only Angie manage to finish the race huh?? Our team didn't have much luck also. Faulty ECU, broken wheel nuts.. and worse being hit by Petronas Z4 from outside racing line... after 8 hours driving... sigh. But it wasn't so bad cos we only had 1 week to prep the car. And good news is that the car is back in action today during open trackday at Sepang. I heard the laptimes gonna bite the top qualifiers in class b & c..
Yah the proton putra was last on grid to qualify.
and they were running 5th until the last 10 minutes they climbed to 3rd and finished 3rd.
They took advantage of our retirement at 11.40p.m Team Titan Racing (2nd Spot ) and Retirement at 11.50 Team NI racing . (from 3rd sport) and that elevated them to 3rd sport .
Oh well i gues anyting can happen. haahhha
there were at least 6-7 laps behind before our retirement.
