very interesting race yesterday. even though luck is not on my side on the 2nd qualifying bcoz i crashed on someone who spun in the middle of corner (i cant remember which corner) luckily i wore me rib protector, the crash also broke my rear rim which cause me the race.

but on the final i got to choose a kart so i choose number 5 which was a pretty good kart. i started on the 11th grid, and i fought my way and got number four but i had to really push my self to overtook kenny (zoggee) to get to number 4. we had very-very tough and exciting dogfighting and i managed to overtook him. big ups to MyKart.

It was really hot and tiring.. as usual.

There were many new faces adding more fun to the event.. so thats good.

Heat 1, nothing could be done as I didnt get a good kart to start with. Finished 6th.

Heat 2, I had a better kart and was challenging for the lead. But weight played me down and only finished 3rd. Had a good scrap with Vincent who gave me a cheeky thumbs up after overtaking me when i made a mistake trying to cover my line a bit too much. Good thing i got him again in the next laps Eye Wanted to return the thumbs up.. but i reserved it till after the race Eye

Final A, ended up in the middle of the pack with a relatively good kart. On the start, i quickly head for the inside line, when everybody else was going for the outside line.. hmm?! that gave me the lead going into the first corner. I was slowing down the pack just to make sure everyone had a good scrap with each other.. kekekek thus giving me some space to create a gap Sticking out tongue (its always tactical Eye )

I was leading the race when Dennis (again) managed to overtake me on the straights (weight again?). But at that point, I noticed the decrease in speed of the kart. There was a loud noise from the kart which I thot came from a loose floor board. It was loud and slowing down the kart.

I thot to myself..not again! this is the 2nd time i was leading the final K3 and the kart failed on me. (Rd8, was leading the race when spark plug died.. had to change karts and finished last). I was coasting until the start/finish line when I thot.. hmm.. its too hot outside.. changing karts will still give me the same result-finishing last, I was already tiring.. so i decided to do the classic endurance race tactic.. parking before the start/finish line and waiting for the checkered flag (another tactical game). I just parked there with the engines off, and alerting other drivers to stay on the left-hand side of the track.

I knew I needed to finish the race to ensure max points in the K3-70 category albeit my challenge to be in the top 5 overall is deteriorating with this series of bad luck (read ferrari=kimi=2008 season). Once Hafizal crossed the line, I restarted the engine and crossed the line for a technical finish (3 laps down) and parked it there.

It was a worned out engine sprocket that was the culprit this time. i guessed it was already at the limit at the start of the race. As it gets worned out more, i lost speed before finally loosing the drive. engine was turning, chains were intact, but the kart didnt wanna move. I thot it was the clutch.

after inspection after the race, the chain were badly damaged due to the worned out sprockets. another bad omen for me when i could have gotten max points in the overall K3 this last two rounds. just thot i wanted to leave K3 on a high note before upgrading to something else..

But it was a good round nonetheless. Looking forward to the last two rounds.

dennisHo:

One of the best races i had so far! and my personal best finish in Final A so i'm happy but could've done better.

Heat 1: Got kart no. 1!! i was fast on the straights but very tail happy in the corners and it was a painful drive as it was vibrating so much i got blisters on my hands (time to buy gloves Eye ) Was leading after lap 2 i think and then i kept losing time in turn 1 and the guy behind managed to catch up and after another 2 laps, he was right beside me at the start/finish straight and coming out of turn 1, i got knocked by someone. Dropped to fourth and chased down and third but there were not enough laps to catch the guys in front as they were already quite far ahead to close the gap in the 2 remaining laps.

Heat 2: Got a better kart this time, no.11 was quite stable and smooth but was not as powerful as kart no.1 started from 12th and had a good start. As the green flag began to wave, i saw the guy in front of me (imran) was slow on the gas so i got alongside him and took the inside line having him protect me on the outside! haha. I was in the middle of the field and there were dogfights happening in front of me and i was thinking whether to join in or not as they seemed to be all over the place and i don't want to get taken out but at the same time the leader was pulling away. I pushed the guys in front and in turn 1, they went wide and just before i was about to overtake them, i got shunted from behind, it was a pretty hard knock and i remember praying that nothing will break (me and the kart). I got going again and in that same spot they previous 2 went wide again and i manage to take 2 positions. I learnt a lot here as this is the case of getting stuck behind slower (not really slower, but they were fighting so of course they'll be a bit slower then if they had a clear track) and i had to be patient to pick my moment. Got up to third and battled for 2nd place. It was another good battle for me as he was defending his line pretty tight and was forcing me off the track everytime i got beside him all over the track and had to attack left and right and finally he oversteered too much and slid the kart at the last corner so i managed to get ahead of him. But again, there weren't enough laps to chase the leader anymore.

Final A: I chose back kart no.11 and this was a race that i kind of threw away myself. I got a really good start, starting from behind and i took the widest in going into turn 1 and managed to get ahead to top 3 (i think) and i managed to overtake 2nd and battled with rizal of about a lap or 2 and he seemed quick but after that 1 and a half laps, he seemed to slow down and i manage to overtake him, i was leading and then the left rear began to shake worse now after the collision in heat 2 and i was understeering in the parabolic, the kart just wouldn't turn in and hafizal got the lead and i was able to stay close to him for a good lap or 2 when he made a mistake in mid corner of turn 10 and we both lost momentum as i braked to avoid him. after that, he just pulled away then i continued to suffer from massive understeer in that corner, with a little mistake in the previous left-hander, i lost 2nd at that same spot. battled to get the place back and we were trading places until i saw the chequered flag being shown to us and i thought the race was over but it was actually on for another lap!! this confusion might have cost me 2nd.

none the less, it was a good race and i managed to learn a lot of things about racing today and with a good consistent kart, fighting for places was made easier a bit. TQ my-kart!

I am new in these, but i can smell the competetiveness when i am there. Hehe. So i had a slower kart in the final A but it is a lot of fun.

Keep up my-kart.

Hi Guys,

It was my first my-kart race, and I had tremendous fun. Everybody was competitive but fair. I started Qualifying 1 from the back and slowly made my way up, had a slight tangle with a kart in turn 1 (sorry), but pushed hard to catch up to Vincent, got by and luckily managed to hold on for the position.

In Qualifying 2 had a pretty bad kart, alignment was out as well as down on power, ended up 5th in that session.

As for the final, I started 3rd from the back. At the start of the race so many people were jostling for position, tried my best not to get tangled up in an accident. Took a couple of laps to get to third, had a good fight with Dennis, made some mistakes after overtaking him resulting in a fun fight but that took some time and allowed Md Hafizal to pull out a bigger gap. Pushed hard to get away from Dennis, but not enough laps to catch up with the leader and had to settle for 2nd.

It must be said that it was a really well organized event. Will be coming back for more.

Just wanted to say thanks to my-kart for allowing me to join at the very last minute... My first ever time on a go-kart although i have raced saloons before.... very different and I have a lot to learn... It was great fun though!! I love the competition... Fierce but fair... My finish improved each time even though I am nearer the back than the front... But I hope to improve soon before my corporate event next week... Anyone practicing this week?

»

DAMD:

Guys, are there any regular groups that practice the FunKarts on weekdays? I need to practice once or twice more this week before the event on the weekend. And is there a Track Timer in place so that i can tell if I am going faster or not? Sorry if these are silly questions.... Last minute training lah...

very interesting race yesterday. even though luck is not on my side on the 2nd qualifying bcoz i crashed on someone who spun in the middle of corner (i cant remember which corner) luckily i wore me rib protector, the crash also broke my rear rim which cause me the race.

but on the final i got to choose a kart so i choose number 5 which was a pretty good kart. i started on the 11th grid, and i fought my way and got number four but i had to really push my self to overtook kenny (zoggee) to get to number 4. we had very-very tough and exciting dogfighting and i managed to overtook him. big ups to MyKart.

Wira A. Fauzi - Vertical Speed

...yeah, ask Ah Cheong (the big guy at the reg table)that you want to rent a transponder. And when you are doing about 1:14, give yourself a pat on the back!

»

dennisHo:

abg naza, does the transponder cost extra?

Yup, if my memory is right, RM20. Try to bargain for less if more than one transponder is required. Alternatively, get someone to time you with the mobile phone stop watch....I did that quite frequently!

»

DAMD:

Sure, but I think track only open after 4pm due to corporate event... I can meet you there at 4pm?

Zul, the sacrafices you are willing to make are astonishing. You are willing to take time off from work and suffer the blazing heat of the sun, the deafing noises of the engines, the throat wrenching smell of petrol fumes to help these guys with their timing. Sticking out tongue

Congrates to the winner!

Q1: Was in 2nd with nobody nearby and then I lost my concerntration and went off at the Parabolica. Managed to get back onto the track in last place and then climb my way back up. That was fun Embarassed Luckily I checked the results. I was recorded as 2nd last, but I was sure I was at least half way up the field b4 the chequered flag.

Q2: Had a very avg kart, so did my best to keep traffic behind me and catch up to the front.

Final A: At the start, I think I saw Rizal going into 1st place on the 1st lap. Being so far from the highest points, meant i only had leftover karts to choose from. #18 was another avg kart. It was a good race as I had a good clean race with Nazaroff. I'll gladly race with him again anyday - no zigzaggin, no bumpin. We gave each other enough room.

Was trying to overtake him on a few occassion, but finally made my move on the straight as my kart seemed to have a better pickup than his. After that I was just doing my best to keep him behind. Since I was trailin him earlier, I knew we were about similar speed. So, I was just watchin and waiting for him to come back at me again. But I guess I defended well enough.

Suddenly after a couple of laps, he wasn't on my tail anymore and I could breath a sigh of relief.

Somewhere in between there, Rizal was slowing down, then saw him on the left of the start/finishing line and finally on the right of the start/finishing line.

All in all, it was a good race to finish in 5th with leftover karts.

I'm sorry I wont be able to make it back for the remainin of the races in Nov, otherwise, I can try to move into the top10. Not too bad for 2 races Laughing out loud

bloody heck you are right... my corporate team had a practice session yesterday... chubby bloke behind desk timed me... took kart #21... clocked 1:22, he said time is too slow to compete, so i changed to kart #8, immediately went down to 1:19, and tried kart #5 as well down to 1:18... that's why my friends tell me the luck of the draw is so important in 80cc karts.... i am still too slow after 3 sessions on this track already!... how do i get to the 1:14 that Naza says i should be doing?... that's 4 secs!!!... die lah...
