TeleVAS White Wins the 2009 my-Kart Mega Mad 8 Hours Endurance

Congratulations to Team TeleVAS White for winning the 2009 my-Kart Mega Mad Endurance 8 Hours Endurance.

Thank you to all 14 teams that came to the race and have shown great team work and sportmanship too. It has been a great year for some of the drivers, whom also race the my-Kart Driver Series too. This year 8 Hours Endurance was a promise that I have fulfilled for the drivers that attended the 6 Hours Endurance in 2008. Thank you again for making this happen~ And I hope you like the T-Shirt. I personally design it.

The race started with a very cloudy morning and every team was already expecting the race to be wet. It is just the matter of time when the rain will come. As the race reached the one hour mark, the rain came. It was a hard decision for the committee to stop the race or to continue. As the rain got heavier, the committee decided to stop the race. 15 minutes later, a restart of the race under wet condition. Remember it's only wet condition. The race lasted for another one hour when the second rainfall came. This time, it pours~!! And when we restarted the race, everyone was racing under flooding condition~! It is even worst than being in the wet condition. Lots of karts stalled in the middle of the track and some went on safely. From the second restart, there was no more turning back and all team went flat out till the end of the race.

It was a very close battle between the 1st and 2nd placing team (TeleVAS White and Alien Predator). These 2 teams exchange places for numerous time on the track until TeleVAS White has a better chance at the end and took the chequered flag. There was zero casualty, which I am very happy about it. But there was an incident whereby a tire came off for Team Kegani Kookaburra Ultra Racing (The longest team name in my-kart history). I have made a follow-up on this issue on Sunday at City Karting. I have been told that * I do not know how to declare the parts so I will explain it - (the 2 out of 3 of the screws that attached to the axel, which holds the rim has broke). And that is the reason why the tire came off. Even with all these little problems, I am happy that no one was left behind and all 14 teams made it to the chequered flag. Congratulations to all teams~!

I would like to say thank you to all our sponsors:
1) City Karting for providing the track, the food, the trophies and medals, and their services for so many years.
2) John King Karting for sponsoring the race suits, gloves and the balaclavas.
3) Lotus Car Malaysia for sponsoring the winners of the endurance a seat for the next Lotus Driving Experience outing. Also thank you to Mr. Edward Tan for his time.
4) Fuchs for sponsoring the Titan Racing Engine Oil.

Lastly, I honestly admitted that there was one or two incident which it slipped my mind to remind the team on certain issues. Do forgive me for those little mistakes. I hope everyone had great fun this year and I shall see all of you again, maybe even more people next year~! Check for 2010 my-Kart Are You Mad Endurance the coming March~! See you all again~!

Hi all,

Congratulations Team TeleVas White

First off, sorry for not being able to join the endurance race this year. Been very busy with 2 things lately:
1. Recent new addition to the family. Almost named her 'Danica' but gladly didn't Eye
2. Busy with our own 'endurance' project. Morphing A1TM into a Le Mans team for 2010. Our mechs are in UK now working with Lola on their LMP1 car projects.

On to the Mega Mad 10hr endurance next year then Smiling

Correct me if I am wrong, but after the ballotting of karts and before the end of the practice session was the time allocated to check the karts, tyre pressures and 'glam up the kart' with stickers etc? All in all, in future - please let us check the kart over mechanically so such stories dun happen. You can seal the engine but allow us to check the kart over. Btw, we also lost the throttle spring of our carburettor which lost more us more time.

Tyres pressure check & greasing of chain was all that was allowed. Putting stickers is well, not comparable.

Mark - to check the tyre bolts esp the rears, the kart will need to be on a stand ideally. Btw, the M10 T wrench is a tool many of us do not have.

If I took my tools up and put the kart on the stand, many will cry foul. Someone will surely think I am fiddling something. Anyhow, as said - please consider this for next year.

Congrats to all teams who participated and special thanks to the organising committee and volunteers who made the event a huge success.

Well done to Team TeleVAS White, Aliens Racing Team and Team TeleVAS Black for the podium finish. Special personal thanks to all the televas crew who worked tirelessly not only on the day itself but for weks and months prior to the event, especially Desmond, Emily, Ramsey and Zul who gave up so much of their personal time to get involved in the rookies selection and training. Thank you so much guys.

Congrats to Team TeleRookies as well for their 11th place finish. For me, this was an amazing achievement, considering these guys had not taken part in a proper race before and only started training in DRY conditions since October. Just to finish the race would have been wonderful in itself but to finish 7 laps ahead of the 14th place team and just 6 seconds behind the 10th place team is absolutely fantastic.

Overall, despite a few tense moments throughout the day and my obnoxious attitude between the green and chequered flag, it was a great day!

Thank you for the birthday wishes and cake too. It was a great surprise Eye

Still I managed to drop by citykarting for the final stages of the race and to see rainfall is even better Smiling Teams with waterlogged engines will disagree of course.

Anyway endurance racing is always interesting as you play a lot with strategies, optimizing all resources available, drivers and equipment just to stay out on track as long as possible while keeping the pace. Always nice to see the 'tortoise'(Audi) race the 'hare'(Peugeot).

Thought I'd share with you this great piece of video. It's a 60 second trailer of Audi's 2008 Le Mans documentary. The documentary itself was officially released earlier this year a day before Audi unveiled the new R15 TDI LMP1 at the 2009 12hr Sebring.

I think it's a really, really cool vid on Le Mans endurance racing.
60 second trailer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gw6-dvtsa2g

The full 90min documentary can be downloaded free via itunes. Go to http://www.truthin24.com

Maybe it would have been useful to see this BEFORE Saturday's race. A lot of Audi garage operation insights including strategies.. Smiling

Jules | Just to clarify on the

Just to clarify on the missing rim of Team Kegani Kookaburra Ultra Racing ....

The rim is held by 3 threaded studs onto the hub. The studs are screwed into the hub on one end and the rim is then fixed onto the studs via 3 M10 nuts on the other end of the stud.

The failure was this and this is spoken from someone who has karted and worked on his kart for 10 years now.

2 studs was missing from stud and the hub internal thread were all gone.
1 stud remained minus the m10 nut

We hit NOTHING during the race and the only acceptable explanation was one or more of the nut(s) was/were not tighted enough. The missing M13 nut is the clue and could be the start of all this as once that is gone, the other 2 stud will be forced onto the hub and eventually the non eccentric forces will shear or pull the studs out. ( with nuts still attached )

This failure happened in the 1st downpour ie. 1.5 hours into race.

I had already given a tonque lashing to Ah Boy, the responsible mechanic for tightening the wheels and if i am wrong, he would have told me so and I know him well enough since he is my private kart mechanic too.

All in all, in future - please let us check the kart over mechanically so such stories dun happen. You can seal the engine but allow us to check the kart over. Btw, we also lost the throttle spring of our carburettor which lost more us more time.

Just a feedback in otherwise a good event. Thanks to Edwyn, Naza and rest who made this possible.

Thanks.

Jules

On behalf of the team i would like to congratulate all 12 team drivers including myself for showing a never say die spirit through out the whole race. I personally believe that all of us, especially my team is capable of doing better, despite of the series of misfortune incidences thrown at us. We have learnt so many from this race and will be stronger and well equipped and prepared as always for the next one. Also i would take this opportunity to congratulate the committee members of the endurance race for making the race butter smooth dispite the worst case scenario.Bravo.

Our team were making good progress during the race and even better up the ranks during the rain but after the wheel came off, we restarted back dead last. Was a hard catch up and to add problems to problematic day, the screw to the throttle cable came lose.

We indeed had fun, especially in the wet and look forward to more next year!!!

Edwyn - THANK YOU for your passion and dedication to deliver this excellently fun event.

Thank you also for giving TeleVAS a good run for their money..it was well fought and very exciting.

Already looking forward to the 2010 "You-Must-Be-Stark-Raving-Mad" Mega Endurance and thinking how we can make it even more exciting.

As resident AJK Makan, I must commend Team Aliens for having the foresight to bring in delicious yet colour coordinated (Aliens orange-themed) spaghetti...which was truly delicious but I think the lovely but Alien Avsolute Tome put a little too much cheese in my helping..I had extra "power boosts" during my short stints on track..Eye

Next year, AJK Makan (Mrs Makan) suggest that we should commandeer some food vans and get them to park by the pit area...eg Rojak Kader, Lok Lok (halal one aaah), SP Assam Laksa, and makcik goreng pisang van, etc etc...heheheh...

Anyway...well done to all organising committee and participants!

naza | Edwyn, Thanks to you for

Edwyn,
Thanks to you for your passion and hard work in spearheading this race under really trying conditions with very limited resources.....you da man! We hoped that next year's grand finale enduro will be even better subject again to costs.

As for ART, it was excellent strategy and tactics that lead Team Alien Predator to a hard fought P2 finish, of course P1 would have been nice. Congrats to its Team Captains and drivers.

Team Alien Terminator was very quick climbing from the back to pace comfortably behind Televas White and Alien Predator until lap 54 when the race was red flagged due to heavy rain. Disaster struck when the engine seized minutes after race was resumed in very wet conditions. A spare kart was use to continue the race and a second disaster struck when its throttle cable came undone and had to return to the pit again. Obviously, it was very disappointing but gained some consolation when its anchor driver drove like an Alien possessed in pouring rain to climb from last to finish ahead of another team. So, well done to all its drivers and a special thanks to Hanif and Aida for preparing the Alien food (I mean food for Aliens....).

...so bring on the "2010 my-Kart Are You Mad Endurance"
