Round 02, K3 race report - Nazri Ng claims second win in two races

Saturday, 4 February 2006
Shah Alam Stadium Kart Circuit (CCW)

Nazri Ng demonstrated why he would a force to be reckoned with in 2006 by clinching his second win of the year in spectacular style. Nazri held off second placed Khairul Hizam Isaac and Jason Goodmund in third to claim full marks after the first two rounds. Zainuddin Zainal, Afzan (May) and Amri round up the top six finishers. All six drivers were in the K3-45 category.

Eight drivers participated in the K3-70 category. The top three finishers were Danny Chooz, Douglas Chai and Chris Chuang.

K3-45 report

Qualifying honours were shared by four drivers, with Nazri, Farid Kadri, Zainuddin and Amri each claiming top spots in their respective qualifying groups. The overall top six in qualifying went to Nazri (36pts), Zainuddin (34pts), Farid (34pts), 2004 K3 champion Kevin Tan (27pts), Md Misbahudin (26pts) and Amri (25pts).

In the feature race, Nazri made full use of his first choice kart selection to leap spectacularly from 16th and last on the grid up to 4th position by the end of the first lap. Thereafter he gradually reeled in Jason, Afzan and Amri. By the end of lap 2, Nazri had moved up to 3rd as Amri slipped down to 7th. Nazri chased Afzan over two laps and took 2nd from Afzan on lap 4. Lap 5 saw Nazri pass Jason for the lead that he would hold until the chequered flag.

Meanwhile behind Nazri, Khairul was also impressive progress through the field as went from 10th on the grid to 6th on lap 2 and then gradually despatching the front runners to move up to 2nd on lap 7 and claim 2nd overall. The main feature race was dramatic for Iskandar Mildseven and Farid Kadri as they ended up with DNF's due to separate incidents on lap 5 and 6, respectively.

In the consolation final race, Kamarul Nazri's win was overshadowed by the heartbreaking failure of Siew Weng's kart on the very last lap after leading strongly for 7 laps.

K3-70 report

Qualifying honours in the K3-70 category went to Abdul Razak, Douglas Chai and Chris Chuang and Danny Chooz, all claiming top position in their respective qualifying groups. The top three K3-70 qualifying positions went to Douglas, Danny and Abdul Razak.

Douglas and Danny would participate in the main feature race, whilst the rest of the K3-70 drivers would be racing in the consolation final race. The main feature saw a reversal of fortunes for Douglas and Danny. By virtue of his higher qualifying position, Douglas had preferential choice of karts over Danny, but started 3rd on the grid compared to Danny's 1st position. Their relative positions stayed like this until the chequered flag, although Douglas had to work a little harder after slipping down the field resulting to have to pass three other K3-45 drivers to close in on Danny.

In the consolition final race, Chris Chuang was virtually unchallenged as he made strong progress from 4th in the category to 1st at the end of the 1st lap. He also passed a few other K3-45 drivers to end up overall K3 2nd at the chequered flag.

Not an easy race for me this time as i had to
battled out my final race from 13th to 8th position.

Final A : Failed to defend my 7th position at the final lap when Kevin Tan overtook me at the very last corner and ended up finished behind him while Ramzul almost overtook me at the finish line by few inches. My best finish so far but i still feel dissapointed with my overall performance.

Congrats to all other 31 drivers!

P/S : Isk Mildseven, Chooz and I had a "post-race dinner" @ Mutiara Damansara after the race.

ramsey, i think congrats goes to 30 drivers only, as i totally had the most memorable race. Smiling

1st heat, did pretty badly, even having half the kart going into that drainage hole... wtf??!?
2nd heat, crash into angeline at the 1st corner. end of race for me.
final was the best, having a ceased engine while leading on last lap, with 600m of tarmac to go.

bad luck? yupp... sh!t happens. nazri ng drove superbly!! i took the same kart as him for 1st heat, i was the total opposite of his performance.
he should be promoted to k2 with that kinda skills!

Just felt bad when i saw you DNF on the final lap of final B. No worries dude, theres another 8 tight races more to go! Yeah, saw quite of numbers went off to the drainage hole and did saw some other karters bumping each others kart. I felt its quite dangerous to practice this method during the race.

Nazri Ng? I dont even had a chance to follow his racing line or else i have to wait for another 20 years time to keep up with him. Damn he's too quick! Wicked!

Iskandar Zulkarnain:

Race 1 was ok for me, considering the spin i had trying to overtake Siew weng AND Danny at turn 2. then i had a ding dong time carving my way past what? four guys and a girl? then three spinners made my day.

Race 2 was atrocious. I stepped into kart 16 hopeing it would be good. not a chance. The chassis was decent but the dragging wing spoilt right side grip, giving me great turn-in for right hand turns, but awfully shite understeer especialy in the right haipin after the long straight. On the upside, Shah gave me a good time.

Iskandar Zulkarnain:

I came into the race with either one of these objectives in mind. get into Final A or win Final B. Why I didn't do the first, i have already explained. now, the second...
During kart selection, Mr Park took my selected kart, the one i knew intimately, number 6. ok, fine, i selected nazri's winning number 1, which siew weng drove with great results (up to his incident in race 1). big mistake. for one, it was way too small for me, i had to do the "McNab spread" in order to accomodate the situation. the problem was compounded by the throttle travel. It was annoyingly short! How Nazri could drive with that i don't know. so i managed to stay with the front at first, but the travel was just too much. I spun putting the gas on at turn 2 again. then i was just prayng for the finish.
Expect me for round 3, my field trip to Melaka, by divine providence, has been postponed to the 5th! hehehe,
NEVER FEAR, SPIN IS HERE!

Iski - great review! lol!

you should try getting a hang of the short throttle travel... but i guess when you're trying to make your legs behave shorter than they really are, it would be a challenge.

Bro,

....thank you. The podium finish was due to many factors. Using rental karts is a real challenge...i.e. not knowing the condition of the kart until you are on your warm up lap and learning how to adapt quickly is a skill to be acquired over the season well worth it's weight in gold! (we owe it to my-KART) ...as for me , I had the added satisfaction of winning one of many dog fights with junior dating quite a while back.... no love lost on the track! LOL!

Wei tarmizi, take ur sis to cash converters at taman sea. i saw two second-hand helmets there going for 79 and 95 ringgit, BMA and Arai respectively. the Arai was especially nice, got the mirror-type visor. About Nazri...I think Fangio jumped into his body when he's racing lar. dia skip alam barzakh kot...lol i think the ulamas are gonna get my ass after this.

Genuine Arai or genuine imitated Arai (i w/o the dot)? Full face?

nvm la bro. better than the apollo type helmet.. the one mat rempit use during their racing. once they jatuh consider the helmet & their head broke as well.. *sirim approved some more*
