Round 02, Mega Enduro report - Team PCNetComm bags second win of the year

Saturday, 15 April 2006
Sepang Go-Kart Circuit (CW)

Once again PC Net Comm demonstrated their clear intent on challenging for the 2006 Mega Enduro title by winning their second race running. The top 3 finishers of round were the exact same teams as in round 1.

Team Aliens finised as runners up, whilst Fast & Furious complete the podium.

Team Novice showed good progress as they shed their "novice" status by finishing fourth and running as high as second before the third pitstop. Team Novice principal Patrick Tan stated that they had miscalculated the fuel level which was short by a mere 2 laps.

Fifth place went to Gila Racing. The Team had struggled from the start with brakes which lost them time on the track and in the pitstops (as they rectified it) between the first and the second stints.

Sixth place went to Team Heavies whose strategy was simply to win. Team principal, Yip Yen claimed that he was upset that they did not win, and mumbled that they need to improve on their future strategy on HOW to win.

Last finisher was Tail Happy Racing. Tail Happy was plagued by mechnical problems halfway through the second stint as initially a fuel line problem resulted in the team losing drive. Subsequently the team faced terminal problems with their first kart (no 11) in the third stint. A long delay ensued before the team took a replacement kart (no 8). Unfortunately, once again problems hit them in the final stint when the chain came off twice within a space of one lap.

The event went fairly smoothly. 7 teams participated and the karts were in fairly good condition (except for Tail Happy Racing). The timing system was unavailable during the event, but the manual lapcharting was very good & consistent.

Once again, thanks to all that helped make the event run smoothly. Also to KartQuest for the solid work.

Your feedbacks and race accounts pls.

It was indeed an unhappy ending for Tail Happy Racing...Sad

First of all, i would like to say thank you to my teammates, eventhough our mistake before the 3nd pitstop, (where we had to make a mandatory re-fuel before pit-in again for another lap for driver change where time is crucial for us when we quite had a great run running 2nd overall that time) my tyre suppliers, pitcrews, engineers, organizers and all volunteers that had been grateful to support my-kart events.

Will be looking forward again for the next enduro in sepang together with my teammates.

syukur to Allah that our strategy works again... we are about to pull out from the race due to some problem but manage to get going.. thanks to all PcNetComm drivers that really put full commitment towards the event and putting PcNetComm Enduro Team on top of the list.

For PcNetComm Team members; I'm currently working on getting sponsors to support our appearance on every My-kart or other event organisers.

Razak and I of Team Aliens wished to thank Shaeran and Faizal for their fantastic drives resulting in another podium finish.....without whom Aliens would not have ran on that day at all. Shaeran sharp eyes saw that the sprocket needed to be changed before the start....in the nick of time. And Faizal was a last minute fill-in whom we have not had a slightest idea of his track record other than his word. As it turn out he was a revelation with a very useful strong drive. Must get him to join other mykart regular events (said he had registered).

Got to watch out for that Sawadeekap team...that mandi bunga and hatchai stints seem to show results....that 'Novice' name is just a psychological ploy guys...kap!

Once again, Tail Happy and Gila Racing were victims of chain putus / terkeluar and brek tak makan problems respectively.

In the case of Gila R, the brakes were ok during testing ?...so it had to be very unlucky that the brakes gave up when the race was on. Perhaps, Gila R can shed some light on what was the actual problem.

Chain terkeluar can be due to too much free play which can be easily detected when stationary. I actually saw a few karts with drive chains which in my view was too loose / too much free play and reported it to one of the mechanics (dont know their names though)....but he just shrug it off mumbling that it's quite normal.

The moral of the story?....if only Razman was around, things would have been better I guess.....my two baht.

We were a bit unlucky that the fuel could not last till the 3rd pitstop by a whisker. We were catching up to the leader (PcNet) to within 5 secs and have left our closest rival (Team Alien) by 30 secs behind before our kart sputter due to lack fuel. We lost over 30+ secs over 1.5 laps trying to keep our kart out till the pitchange time. But it was a good call by us to call Sabelt into the pits to fuel up eventhough we still have 1.5 minutes to go before the pitlane open as the kart was practically running on fumes when we brought it in. It would be a disaster if we ran another lap as the kart might have stopped out of fuel anywhere along the track.
Our high fuel consumption could be due to our hard driving and my heavy weight! All in all, we lost over a minute here = 1 lap +

It was unlucky too that our kart lost power during our anchorman's (Luen) turn in the last stint after the fuel-up or we could be fighting for better placing.

just to share,

Our kart are not running well at the earlier (during 1st driver). Our first driver has reported to me that he had hard time to push the kart especially when getting out of the turn. Its very hard to get smooth drive (sempot) so we've decided to change the strategy by letting our second driver to make use of "pit open time" (push harder signal) until the last two minutes then we call him in (one lap after Fast & Furious in).. thank god our pit stop & refueling were very smooth. As a third driver I try to play around with the kart(I mean getting off racing line sometimes) playing with the fuel pedal and again we are lucky 'it works!' we get back the engine (dah tak sempot) still don't know how it works.. Nazri Ng who is our last driver had finished the job superbly... Thanks to all PcNetComm drivers... see you all on 20/5/2006

We may be stumbling upon some pre-race "best practices" here...I think Tail Happy would be Happier if we adopted the same strategy...kap!
