VW Golf GTI 30th Anniversary Drive

Guys and gals, if you know of anyone with a Golf GTI (Mk1 to Mk5), please help to spread this news.

My buddy is organising a drive on the 11 Nov to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Golf GTI (1976-2006). We have managed to get at least one GTI from each generation to come (around 12 in total so far, the more the merrier).

The details are as follows :

Date : Saturday 11 Nov 2006
Time : 8am
RV point : 7-11/Petronas Jalan Cheras 8 1/2 miles (it's right after Phoenix Plaza, southbound to Kajang)
Route : Jalan Cheras - Hulu Langat - Titi - Sg Long (TBC after recce)

Lunch will be BYO at Sg Long Country Club and also a photoshoot sessions along the way.

There may be a limited edition polo tee available for purchase (limited to 30 pcs?). For sure there will be free nasi lemak (while stock lasts!), supplied by a well known nasi lemak supplier from my-kart Eye

Besides Golf GTI, any VAG cars (VW, Audi, Skoda, Lambo and Bugatti Laughing out loud) are welcomed too to join the drive too.

Please ask them to contact me at (016) 209 2150 for confirmation or log onto the website to register :

Mention GTI in Malaysia and most people will be referring to the Satria GTI. No doubt the Satria GTI has developed a cult following of its own here as well as the markets it was exported to, and it is a good car in its own right.

But cars like the Satria GTI, the Honda Civic Type R and all the hot hatches owe it all to the grand daddy of hot hatches, the Volkswagen Golf GTI. The Golf GTI celebrates it's 30th Anniversay this year having first been seen by the world in 1976, and to date there are 4 reincarnations of the Mk1 GTI. The latest GTI, the Mark 5 has recaptured the imagination of motoring public. Although bigger and some 700kg heavier than the Mark 1, the modern suspension design coupled with the 2.0 turbo engine/DSG gearbox combo has propelled the GTI to a whole new level.

To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of this motoring icon, VW enthusiasts gathered on a sunny morning on Saturday 11 November 2006 to do what the GTI do best - tackling the back roads.

Around 20 VW cars, ranging from the Mark 1 GTI to the latest Mark 5 GTI amongst the Corrado, Mk1 Cabriolet, Vento, Passat and Scirocco took to the back roads with gusto. Here are some pictures to share from this event.

I had a blast... especially during the drive to Kuala Klawang when I was trying to keep up with the Mk5... man that car is simply awesome...!!!

No prob. The turns are very nice for RWD. Many left-right combo to link togther.

Word of warning though - some of the longkangs are also quite deep! hehe
