MegaEnduro Round 06 - Tail Happy wins race, PC Net Comm clinches championship
Saturday, 18 November 2006
Plus Speedway Kart Circuit (CW)
Race summary
Tail Happy Racing claimed their first race win of the year and moves to third overall in the 2006 MegaEnduro championship. The race was however stopped 15 minutes from the scheduled end due to heavy rain rendering the track slippery and dangerous. But it is PC Net Comm that clinches the 2006 Championship crown by finishing 3rd behind runner up Team Aliens.
Tail Happy team principal and driver Fazz Rahman enthused "I am extremely delighted with this result. This win puts us ahead of Team Novice and into 3rd overall. I had to make a difficult decision not to drive in this round and instead manage the team strategy. Happily for us, the strategy worked like clockwork. I am grateful to Alex, Deanna, Azlan and Ashraff for delivering our first win of the season."
PC Net Comm team principal Azmee was equally pleased, "We had a good start to 2006, but we started having a lot of bad luck in the end. So finishing third just behind Team Aliens was enough for us to clinch our first my-KART MegaEnduro title. I am pleased for the team."
Team Heavies, SAVOC Racing and Team Novice were the other finishers.
The Championship - down to the wire
Like the recently completed K2 and K3 season, the MegaEnduro was another down to the wire battle. Stuff of Hollywood movies. Will we see another photofinish? Will the season leader falter at the end?
As the my-KART enduro season approached its finale, Team Aliens -fresh from winning round 5- were already prepping for the final attack on season long leaders, PC Net Comm. Team Aliens put together a formidable team comprising 3 of the top 4 drivers of the 2006 K2 and Henzee who was a 2006 K2 race winner.
Standings after 5 rounds (round 3 was cancelled):

PC Net Comm had been experiencing a slump in recent races which was starting to look like the Renault F1 of '05 & '06 - good start to the season, but slow finish. Their task was to claim as many points as possible and stay ahead on points of Aliens. Despite some problems early on, PC Net clung on to the race and determinedly finished 3rd which meant that Aliens could not overhaul their points advantage.
Team Aliens were magnanimous in defeat - "all our drivers have had an excellent year. Razak won the K2 championship proving that age and maturity (or lack of it) was no barrier to winning. My son and I had been strong all year in K2 and just missed out on the championship opportunity... so finishing second in the MegaEnduro championship is another icing on a very rich cake" beamed Aliens team principal Naza.
The wonderful race outing was slightly marred by an incident involving SAVOC Racing when one of its drivers had an incident which threw him partly out of the kart. Once again, this was a painful reminder that racing is still dangerous, and my-KART must constantly emphasise safety in racing.
Drivers are encouraged to provide their own account of the race as comments to this thread.

Changed total of 3 Karts !!! wow. I enjoyed it somehow not because of the bad race but because of the people in the team.

First of all, thank you to all PcNetComm drivers that had been contributed the best for The Team for the 2006 season; Nazri Ng, Rahimi, Kamarul, Saeran, Roduwan (Chepot) , and adik Ikhwan who was the last driver that joining PcNetComm Racing Team.
As Fazz had mentioned, yes! we do had a good racing during the earlier stage of the season but it turns hard towards the end with pressures from other teams that keep on improving their strategies had force us to do more in order to achieve our mission. Congratulations to all teams especially Team Aliens (you guys really give us hard time and great pressure until the last race-- kau-kau punye) Lucky 1 point. As for Team Novice, you are definately not 'Novice' anymore guys!!!
On behalf of PcNetComm Racing Team drivers.....' Thank you "My-Kart" for the great Enduro Championship Seasons!'.

Sad day for Team NOVICE today.
We changed 4 karts in total from warm-up till the end of the race.
We were ballotted to kart no.4. Kart looks OK and fits everyone of the driver but the kart has practically no top speed and no low end torque. I believe even K3 80cc kart is faster.
Ramsey with the "SUAY" kart.

Replace it with kart no.17 with not much time to get a feel of the kart (but definitely much much better than kart no.4), Ramsey took it out to race.

It is only then we discovered the kart is slightly lack of top speed comparing to the karts in front. Ramsey managed to keep the pace and we were holding Ramsey out as long as possible during the driver change pitstop window but when Ramsey caught up to Team Heavies & SAVOC at the mickey mouse, he lift off the throttle and the engine died off.
Pushed the kart back to the pits and Desmond took over the kart but the kart refused to start. As the agonising minute pass by, we gave up and as there is no spare raceable kart available at the pitstop, we took back kart no.4 just to complete the race despite being down by at least 12 laps then.
Desmond took it out for a few laps before returning to the pits with kart basically puttering in.
Kartquest quickly scrambled to the garage to up a few more other karts and we decided to select kart no. 13.

By the time when we got the kart no. 13, the 2nd pitstop window is already open. We decided to get Luen to continue the race and we managed to overtake a few teams in progress but alas, we were to far back in number of laps to make any significant effect.
Took over from Luen at the 3rd pitstop window and boy, the kart was a fun to drive. It has the smooth power, good handling and good brakes. I could even power slide out of turn 6 (left turn going uphill) and power slide to set-up for turn 7 (uphill right turn) and I was having fun.
Saw YY coming out of the pits as I was just starting the pits straight. Caught up with him the next lap and managed to overtake him on the pitstop straight. I was pulling away and 2 laps after that, just after turn 4 (right u-turn after parabolic), I noticed 2 drops of rain on my visor. Blast thru turn 5 and was setting up for turn 6 but my kart just went straight! Hey! What's happening? My steering arm broke? Managed to steer of the edge of the track and noticed the tyres are getting wet.
Aiiyaah! The rain is here
and the track condition is getting very slippery and dangerous.
The red flag came out and the race is stopped.
The rain really potong steam just I was starting to get the fun. The most I drove was just 6-7 laps.
My endurance training at the gym could not be utilised here.

The result could be very different if Team Novice didn't encounter kart problem.
Team Novice is in 3rd position behind Team Alien after PcNetComm's kart encountered problem.

Round 5 was a good result for Tail Happy Racing. But getting there was a journey in itself.
The first 4 rounds were tough ones for Tail Happy Racing. We finished 4th in the season opener. But then had kart failures in rounds 2 and 4 (round 3 was cancelled). Going into round 5, we were well down on the leaders and had to make a significant change of plans to boost our chances.
The opportunity came when ATP Azlan decided to scout for minah salleh babes in London. With only Yusnee and Fazz confirmed, I took the chance on getting two drivers who have never driven for Tail Happy: Deanna Yusoff and Alexander McNab. Soon, rumours and malicious news started flying.
I had to hastily conduct a press conference:
As it turned out Deanna and Alexander were great finds proving that Fazz is a great racing talent spotter and team manager. *big grin*
The round 5 result was a major turnaround in Tail Happy Racing's fortunes. We finished 2nd only to the race tyre fitted Team Aliens who were practically untouchable on that day. "We are very pleased with the results, and proved today that we can be very competitive. We have some great drivers in our team" said Fazz.
As we headed towards the finale -round 6- once again I had to make another radical decision. Regular Tail Happy Racing driver, Yusnee had to miss the race due to dispute over pay. Once again, Fazz took a gamble. This time round I decided not to race, but instead focus all my energy on team strategy and management. I re-signed Alexander and Deanna for round 6.
At the time Yusnee was one of our race drivers (before disputing his pay). Then Ashraff came knocking on our doors. I decided to sign Ashraff quickly - but once again, the newspapers went wild. "Why would Tail Happy Racing sign a driver who was known to bring bad luck?" screamed The Sun UK. This news was strategically placed next to the Page 3 model and certainly brought a lot of attention once again to Tail Happy Racing.
"If not for anything, we keep making the news" smiled Fazz.
As practice got underway, the team started feeling comfortable with kart #11 that was ballotted. However, as luck would have it - the kart broke down 5 minutes from the end of practice. Guess who was driving?
Frantically Alexander got into kart #9 and took it out for a few feeler laps. Not much time to do anything. So we had to make do.
As it turned out Alexander made a super start and moved from 5th on the grid to 3rd by the end of the first lap. He soon jumped into the lead and kept building the gap to second place. In the process Alex posted the fastest lap of the day.
Deanna was next out, and my brief to her was to maintain position as the gap to second was by then 45secs. Deanna too made good progress and soon put the second placed team down one lap. Our pitstops worked like clockwork with minimal drama. We called our drivers in at the right times when there was no traffic. We were reading the race and the competitors well.
Azlan then took over from Deanna and had a quick refuel. Azlan too maintained position and by then he was already 2 laps ahead of second. By the time he handed over to Ashraff we had a 3 lap lead. All Ashraff had to do was bring the kart one in one piece.
Then it rained. The race was stopped 15 minutes from the scheduled end. More than 75% of the race had been run so the result stood at the last point all the karts crossed the start finish line.
We managed to pull it all together! And Ashraff indeed was now part of a winning team! Well done team! Excellent teamwork.
Before i sign off - congratulations to PC Net Comm for winning the 2006 my-KART MegaEnduro. Well done guys.

Yeeeeehaaaa!,
First, thank you all for an exciting season, including the rain! We tried very hard and lost by the solitary point, no thanks to a very determined tail happy kwailo (look at how mad he was with that kid's antics) that did the most damage to our strategy....Pah!
But, Congrats to Tail Happy Racing nonetheless....maybe I should study that Fazz's strategy of being a conductor rather than the driver for selected races.....hmmm.
Congrats to PCNetComm. I must confessed that we were not too sad at the sight of Azmee running to the pit minus his ride. We found ourselves clapping for Team Novice instead....sorry bro for that selfish moment....hehehe.
To my fellow teammates and that include Redza, Razmyn, Luen and Desmond, thank you for your contribution to Team Aliens Racing.
