CADET CLASS KARTING - AGES 9 T0 13

FAZZ : ....we've had this discussion offline before.. there are parents out there who would want to start their kids in karting but have no idea what to do. i've had to turn away those parents in the past because we do not have anything to offer them. but if we can put together a list of 20 kids below (say) 15 years old... then we should talk to AP.

PATRICK : ....15 years old maybe a little old to be in the kadet class chassis. The kadet chassis could accomodate up to the max of 12.5 years old only (that oso depending on the kid size).

Folks, let us gauge the enthusiasm level for our kids or your friend's kids to start karting before we surprise the daylights out of AP!.... Even though my kids dont fit no more into cadet class karts, I still do have many friends that have kids that does...hehehe! If you dont mind the list could possibly start as follows:

1. Fazz's (at least one qualified - I saw)
2. Muhaymin's ( a bit too early eh?)
3. Luen's (dont know)
4. Patrick's (two boys?)
5. Razak's (that kid was around quite a while)
6. Rizal Khalid's (one?)
7.
8.
9.
10.

What a sight to behold.....Uncle Jules leading the cadets round the track with some proud parents (some wear worried looks for sure!) onlooking. Yeah, that will be the day!

The elder boy is already in the adult class chassis. Remember he joined his 1st race a few weeks shy of his 14th birthday?

I don't mind mind my younger son (12.5 years old and 145cm tall and in a dilemma stage) joining the kadet class race but he has basically outgrew the kadet chassis but slightly a little too short even for the shortest adult class chassis without any additional paddings. (He needs the additional cushion to be placed at his back to be able to press the brakes comfortably)

Kadet class chassis is good up to 140cm tall and adult class chassis is good if you are above 148cm tall, so how about the in-between the 2 heights lah?

my eldest daughter turns 13 this month and in the past she has expressed interest to join me during my-kart's races to see if she can 'have some fun' in a kart.
unfortunately i've missed waaayyy too many races in 2006 and was hoping to make a more serious effort to lessen these 'no-shows' in 2007.
soon i'll start her with driving lessons (with me as instructor... poor girl... don't know if i'll have the patience haha!) and was hoping to promote/inculculate to her 'safe driving habits' through my-kart's activities, so yes, i would definitely put her in this cadet class.

veedubs rulez!

my sons were both definitely keen on karting. the big brother has a little bit more confidence. Little bro's problem was that he was sitting rather low in the kart. not sure how far he could see from above the steering wheel. elder sister -who turns 13 this year- a bit lukewarm but was visibly happy with the experience. they made a friend on the track the other day and were happily sharing the experience - i think with more friends their age... they would find it more interesting.

Personally, I don't think we need up to 10 participants to start such a class but it will be good if there are more than 10.

I feel that to have more than 6 is already good enough to get it started and the ball shall roll back to CK's field to come-up with the number of karts.

great! even better. Now we can start talking to AP or CK on running a K4 class? As it is we have about 6+ already. Let the ball roll...

Managed to discuss a bit with AP on our kids using cadet karts (Mitsubishi 4 stroke engine, will run for ages). He is adamant that he has more cadet karts in his workshop and just waiting for myKart's confirmation. Currently I saw one kart running and one more under repair at the parc ferme.

He indicated that he wish to help kick start our cadet karting and charging almost nothing for the kids to practice initially (the businessman talking again..!). However, he recommended the kids to practice on weekdays and avoid busy tracks on weekeneds for increase safety in view of much faster 80 /100 / 125 karts flying around. Its a valid point but how many of us can be free on any weekday is something to think about.

Assuming 5 or 6 cadet karts are available by next week and parents can find time to get their kiddos to practice on weekdays or weekeneds (if possible), we can have my_kart's first ever k4 or cadet race in February 2007....another chapter made...hehehe!

for now it is free format so your son should join in to see how it works. let's define this category as we go along.

naza:

Update on Discussions between my_KART members (Naza, Muhaymin, Patrick, Tarmizi) and AP of CityKarting, summarised as follows:

1) Our kids should take the first step of familiarisation and basic skills development with the slower 4 stroke engine cadet karts before upgrading to the faster 80 cc karts.

2) Depending on the rate of progress of each child, changing to the faster 80 cc karts can be made on request. CK can prepare 80 cc cadet karts quite easily.

3) Currently, two 4-stroke cadet karts are available for rent at RM 10 per 10 mins and RM 20 for the parent wishing to accompany the child on a 80cc kart. This nice rental rates are valid for my-KART members only (currently those registered on this website until membership IDs are issued). Please state your name and child name below for us (committee members) to inform AP.

4) CK will prepare more 4 stroke cadet karts if the demand warrants it but only after 16th Jan 07 (apparently he is not around before that).

Your name :
Childs name
Age :
Date / Time : Saturday...../ 11.00 am - 1.00 pm (Especially for first timers. The afternoon will be riskier due to the presence of very fast 80/ 100 / 125 karters on the track unless your child is not a newbie.

Just to add to this, Naza, Min, Tarmizi & myself saw a small kid which I believe is about 6-7 years old (with full racing suit) took out the CK cadet kart on his own with his dad following behind.
As you have mentioned that your son will be turning 6 very soon and very passionate about cars (and he has followed you & ffez on the lap with him holding the steering wheel at Manjung go-kart circuit), he should catch-up with the concept of driving very fast.
You should bring him down CK one day and let him sit in the cadet kart to gauge the distance of his feet to the pedal. Who knows, maybe with an additional cushion padding, he could be burning the track before you know what happened!

From the understanding is, once the kids are familiar with driving a kart, we should be able to organise a non-championship race during the my-KART monthly series for the kids with 2 categories (correct me if I'm wrong). 4-stroke for those below 10 with not much confidence yet and 2-stroke 80cc cadet karts for those who are confident enough.

Correct me if I'm wrong, once the membership drive is up, only the paid members will benefit on this offer as only the paid members will get the membership card.

yes. main concern for the likes of citykarting in renting such karts out is credibility of the walk in customer.

my-kart has had a long history with citykarting, kartquest and the likes. my-kart has built a credible reputation as being passionate and professional organisation. we are consistent in our event operations. our members also carry the reputation of being safe, competent and rational drivers. my-kart also has a member base that the likes of citykarting cannot ignore: working adults (professionals, executives, managers and businessmen) who have children / connections / network of acquaitances.

membership benefits is a win win for all. my-KART members carrying the membership card carries with them the my-KART brand and credibility. Circuit operators renting karts to my-KART cardholders know that the person is not going to trash their equipment - and at the same time, allows the operators to bring out equipment which are underutilised.

or hers...
ok quick question b4 i actually bring my daughter(s) to the track...
i don't know about the cadet karts (never actually seen one up close), but are they similar to the normal 4-stroke fun karts (besides being obviously smaller in size)?
because i've driven the normal 4-stroke fun karts and they are god-awful heavy on the steering... and i don't want my daughters to be put-off by this...
cheers!

Ed,
the 4 stroke fun karts we have driven in Sunway and Elite tracks were meant for Scharwznegger type bodies. These 4 stroke 50 cc smaller cadet karts should be light enough having watched some kids driving it in recent days. Perhaps Rizal's son Aiman can shed a bit more light on "heavy steering" assuming he had driven these karts.

ahhh... that explains the bigger biceps after driving one of these monsters... somehow they also seem to relocate to the lower regions (read:tummy) after a couple of nasi lomaks... bugger!
