Congrats to Akina! First debut in mykart and won the race. Hope to see you in action again next round.
What an excellent race! Saw most of the drivers behaved well esp. on 1st corner. Clean without any incident although theres a mishap in the final A.

Really had a good race on Round 1. All the others karter are very competitive. Is the matter of some karts are way to fast and too slow. It might be quite unfair if the individual runs into bad luck getting slow karts for both qualifying sessions.
Qualifying Session 1:
Kart No 13. Good acceleration , excellent handling but poor top speed.
Started of at grid no 12 manage to slip through the traffic at turn 1 and turn 2 while positioning myself at position no 5 after turn 3. Finding difficulties to overtake Zulklifi Samad(kart No.13), after a few outbrake overtaking manuover, losing the pace again at the straights. Finished 5th in qualifying session 1.
Qualifying Session 2:
Kart No 9. Superb acceleration, average handling but good torque.
Started of at grid no 7 and again managed to dive in to the inside of turn 1 and getting a good speed momentum after turn 3, overtake quite a numbers of others kart at the straight positioning myself at 3rd placing. After the 2nd lap , as a race leader , i'm trying to pulled away from the pack as i saw Khairul Nizam(Kart No.27) is chasing at the back. After a distance of a turn, i maintained the pace and speed to ensure no mistake occured and finished 1st in qualifying session 2.
K3 Round 1 Final:
Kart No 9. Superb acceleration, average handling but good torque + confident.
Started of at grid no 15. At turn 1 ,found a small space inside turn 1 which doesnt fit my kart. Luckily while i'm diving into the turn, the kart infront (can't remember who) out of a sudden move abit to allows me enough room to slip in. A spun of another kart in turn 2 giving another opportunity to gain more placings and exiting turn 3 with the good momentum places me at 3rd. Manage to be the race leader on the 3rd lap. Did a few super lap maximising the gap from the 2nd kart, minimising the lap times and race to the chequered flag at a comfortable distance.
Some opinion and suggestions for the future event maybe,
1:The marshall who will wave off the green flag should raise the flag higher cause for the karters behind finding difficulties to see or confirm is the race started of not.
2: Balloting for karts during Qualifying session 1 and 2, maybe doing it in a ping pong ball or lucky draw with a piece of paper will be more fair to all competitor neither than through computerised. The luck of the kart is from the karter's hand itself. No complaints or disatisfication on the kart by given.
Hoping to race another exciting race on round 2.
Cheers,
Akina Teo

thanks for a great report. as for the suggestions... would take note of suggestion #1.
however for #2, balloting will take more precious track time. for now the karts are as random as they are in the predetermined grid. no one knows the performance of the karts until the first race. and with the reversed grid qualifying -- it provides a fairer chance that the driver then swaps kart. for now the predetermined grid & kart numbering stays.

since there were incidents that is close to the heart, I think we should have some agreable, common set of overtaking rules to preserve the amicable ambience we have now.
Please comment on the followings,
1. Inside Line
The right of way into corners between two racers shall be determined by the racer who is in front by at least half of the kart/vehicle length at the entry.
2. Blocking vs Weaving
A racer can move the position of his vehicle on the track only once between corners to defend his race position. Weaving is absolutely prohibited in any situation.

agreed. but for 1- it is more of racing line. the front driver shall dictate the racing line into the corner. his right to chop provided that he is significantly in front.
for 2- agreed. one move only. weaving is a big no no.
that said, i would ask all drivers to apply common sense hear. even though you may be ahead by half kart, you may want to exercise caution (and common sense) in taking your normal racing line if your overtaker is halfway alongside. know who your opponent is. if you don't know the guy, caution is the better part of valour: you just don't know whether he would back off.

On behalf of Ikhwan, I apologise for the incident. Being a rookie he defenitely has a lot to learn, and I am hoping that the experienced drivers in my-kart would be able to guide him so that he can be more matured and well discipline.
Explanation was made to him at length and he finally accepted the fact. It was an argument between him and me. Well, so much watching F1 maybe has contributed to the incident. It was a fact that he doesn't know that what happened was wrong and he cannot be doing it.
However he did raise the fact that he was "approached like someone who has committed a heavy crime"(this was what he said) and he felt that it can be dealt in a better way. Being a teenager and knowing him, there was a little phsycological impact on him as many were watching, which include his mother whom was too near to him. It was the ego and pride which I think everyone normal has it.
As a parent, I am encouraging him to take up the sport. Rather then watching my son becoming "mat rempit", I think this is a better thing to do. He is now 15 and have lots of challenges in front of him. I appreciate, all the help from his fellow karters to make him a better person and a better karter. My sincere appreciation goes to Naza and Steward, who were among the few that has assisted and encouraged him in this sport which has made him very eager. My-Kart has given him the platform to gain some experience on "race craft" (as Naza righfully said) and also a platform to refine his karting skill.
So, please do accept our sincere apology and I hope that the incident shall be forgotten.
See you guys in the next round...

no problems yazid. i spoke to ikhwan immediately after the race ended and told him about the incident. ikhwan is a capable driver and more than able to hold his own amongst other senior drivers. so i hope he takes this little "speedbump" in the right manner. there is no other motive here. we would like to ensure that we have the right environment and mould drivers accordingly. unfortunately f1 is a bad example... but there you go.

Whoa!....what happened?...weaving and blocking ah? If that was the case, there is none better than Fazz to explain young Ikhwan or green horns the proper ethics and discipline when on the track. Mykart's mission amongst others, is to help nurture members develop the proper race ethics and respect for safety at all times. Me, I will continue to assist young Ikhwan and any others (ask la...dont be shy mah!) to my limits.

apparently, everybody seemed to know what we are talking about... good then.
Without singling out any particular incident, this guideline should serve as a standing order. Any karters violating this guide, will be penalized by the race clerk/steward, and no uncalled for arguements should ensue.
going back to no. 1 (racing line), fazz mentioned about "significantly in front", can we term that as at least a tire length of the kart? ie. the overtaking driver should be at least a tire lentgh in front, in the inside line, before any of the driver turns into the corner, in order for the overtaking driver to have the "right of way".
no. 2 agreed on one (additional) move coming out of a corner before the next corner.

rizal - i am a believer of giving people general guidelines as opposed to prescription when it comes to racing. the danger of being very prescriptive is for some clever bugger (like *cough* schumi *cough*) to argue that what he is doing is not against the (prescribed) rule. we should encourage common sense to prevail over such "rules".
besides, it is going to be very difficult to police "one tyre length ahead the other kart". i wouldn't want to implement a rule i cannot police.

Discussing about 'Racing Lines'.
For my experience in circuit racing, we do interfere with new rookies during a race. The new rookies or less experience drivers will be paying more attention at the front of their view rather than the side or back.
Aggresive driving is also one of the habit with apply on them.
For my personal opinion ,I think the new rookies should stick to their racing lines , and for those drivers from the back who would like to overtake, they are the one who should be more cautious and try to find a safe space to overtake. Not by waiting for the rookies to give way or by measuring the size or length between two karts to overtake.
By the way, go karts don't really have a side mirror. So the front drivers can't really know is there any karts at super speed who are going to dive into the inside lines or not.
So i still agree on drivers from the back should be more cautious . Overtake or outbrake at when there is extra space. That will be more safe for both the front and back drivers.
Correct me if i'm wrong.
Cheers,
Akina Teo

akina - agree with you. the onus is on the driver behind to be cautious. and doubly cautious if the driver ahead is a rookie.

Comments from champions..
fully agree with what have been said. the issue would actually be for the rookie who will overtake their opponent. seasoned (and much much heavier) karter like myself, would be bound to be overtaken by young, aggressive, (light) rookies. This overtaking guideline would serve them better. Sometimes I am really worried whether the rookies behind me would dive on me when i am already turning into the corners. This "rule" or guideline should discourage them and others alike, to "properly" and "ethically" choose your overtaking move.
Personally, I had enjoyed battles with desmond, shah, zul and other seasoned karters, of whom I can testify, are very "professional". They choose their defending lines and forced me to find my way around. This is healthy racing compared to being hit from behind when entering a corner.
The rookies should take ques from the buayas in K3. They are skillful and light and they use their advantage accordingly. no arguements or complaints there.
