CityKarting 80cc Personal Time

Hi all, I'm new to this sports. Just 3 outings so far. Consistenly, I can clocked circa 1' 17" secs for a lap at City Karting Shah Alam ( Clock Wise ). My weight is 75kg and using kart #13.

I just want to know the best time for someone out there that have same weight with me.

I'm in the process how to not oversteer while cornering.....

Share me your technik to shorten lap times.....

I think the fastest myKART time done on the 80cc at Shah Alam (CW) is 1'09". For this to happen, you need to have everything working in your favour. I am not sure whether the person was a 75kg-er.

To stop oversteering whilst cornering - simply brake earlier. Eye

Best way round the track is slow in fast out. Getting on the gas early is crucial especially if you are entering a long stretch. Braking technique is also important as well... minimum time on brakes with maximum effect is what is required... and in many corners on the 80cc you can take without braking.

Just try to avoid skidding and spinning wheels... you lose a lot of time that way.

Sticking out tongue In addition to what Fazz had said to prevent oversteering, a common error made by beginners is to enter a cornor at too high a speed and than instinctively slam the brakes to reduce speed at aound mid cornor. This will have the effect of reducing rear wheels traction massively resulting in the rear wheels trying to overtake the front. Tell yourself to brake before cornor entry and never in mid cornor and practice, practice, practice. Don't worry about lap times just yet but instead practice to master the above technique which will translate to faster lap times anyway. Go for it !

damns.. like that ive been destroying the kart (need your advice fazz on how i should drive on saturday)
i was literrally destroying the karts clutch on round 10, never once lifted off the throttle, just used my brakess to slow down, and continue flooring the throttle to keep the revs up....part throttle still tak cukup to sustain the revs during braking....

kart ffeels sharper anyway by using both pedals....

1 17 is normal if using slow kart.
1 14 is normal if using middle range kart.
1 10 is normal if using fast kart.

1 09 is fast for fast kart. (kart 34, 14, 4, 1, 3, ... anymore)

1 09 is clocked on 60kg less. If clocked by 60kg above. WOW!

not oversteer during corner. brake earlier.

Brake later + Drive shorter = Faster Lap times.

Fastest Lap times = drive over grass. Sticking out tongue

I'm using kart #3 yesterday.....and definetly my fren can't catch up with me ( he's 65kg @ using kart #4)..something is wrong with kart #3.......way too fast

Best way to go fast in rental karts - lose weight, clean lines. 10kg = 1 sec! Kart no. 6 was terrible, even Fabian at 58kg only managed 1:16, and he has done 1:13 before in other karts.

»

siewweng:

i think a better , hotter and dryer weather would have reduced our times on saturday, but for Udi from heavies to do a 1:11.6 in those conditions, i got nothing to say but praises.

JJxMan:

10kg = 1 sec? that's exxxxxxxxxxxagarating right?
40kg = 1 sec. most 2 that I believe la..

Huffiz:

Wai Leong metioned that 12Kg is 0.7secs on a 100cc karts is i'm not mistaken. Slower karts like 80cc should do close to 1 full second logically.
Any say?
I did 1min09++ (65kg) before enduro, but Haslina (45kg) from Mix doubles clocked 200th/sec faster than me.
Laptimes is one thing, but winning races is a whole lot of things. Knowing how to pass, slip stream, drift, cuck angin, attack, pressure, defend, close door, slingshot, early out, etc. In many cases, the same rental karts differ in performance everyday. There's no real benchmark for rental karts here.

1.09 circa is very fast indeed. however, 2/10th a second is almost not noticible but still a fact. (still 1st and 2nd)
Increase of weight increases drag should decrease time. However, just like u said earlier, racing is one thing, going fast is another. Laughing out loud

10kg = 1 sec is tested lah by Wai Leong (or was it Razman at Kartquest?). They put a 10kg ballast on the fun kart (same driver) and take the lap times.

Agree race craft is also important, but the raw speed must be there so that on a clear track, you can pull away from the competitors.

my best laptime was the 1st time I went there, only 1:14 sigh... never got faster than that so far Sad

I think 1m 14s is respectable. You would need all sorts of factors to fall into place to get a better time.

The tips, the tricks, the technics, the kart setup, the weather and most of all the driver readiness to put it all together with the right decision will definitly plays and important role to set the best achievement.

As for me, it doesn't matter on time I clocked as long as a continuous learning and racing spirit stays in me I'll be glad.

Thanks for the comments,Now I can consistenly clocked "13 and "14...using kart #3 ...and I've noticed one thing, inthe late evening, where the temp is cooler, the kart is performing good drastically.

Learned some new techniques metioned in the topic, and it works great....like
~ keep the RPM high on the corner ( I just slammed teh brake and never release the throttle )
~ weight shifting
~ slow in fast out
~ tailgating and pushing the front opponent

My comments on kart #3 at City Karting 80cc ( time sheet it use #36 )
- very fast from mid to high
- no rear grip...have to turn early and let it slide a bit
- moderate vibrating
- suitable for ppl like me 180cm/75kg

Not targeting high "12 and constant "13..lucky me I have sparring partner that can go gila with me with this ultimate money spending hobby....

Pretty good! As they say practice makes perfect. That will certainly help improve the lap times. Good that you are also joining the monthly KART series events. Racing technique and single lap shoot out technique are two different things.

how do u know u consistently clock 1:13 when the timing sheet only prints out fastest lap?
u had a fren with a stopwatch clicking each lap for u?

»

TheFazz:

siew weng - you can ask citykarting to print out the lap by lap timings.

Well, i guess we could do a drag test of different weight to test it out....

But a drag test would only show on one part of the track. And there are many corners in a single lap.

Bazet,

I'm 77kg.

Today I managed to kart at Citykarting since my last visit in Jan 2004. (No rain and I happen to be around Shah Alam, so quickly quickly go there to put in some practise to get a feel of the extended track)

I took cart #10 and somehow the cart somehow feels a bit slow. Somehow I could only wring out 1'18" out of the cart and I know it could get better as I'm the first driver for the kart (cold kart and am trying to familiarise with the track again) and the cart is improving as the tyres get hotter but before I could get the hang of it, my 10 minutes is up. Frust!

On the old track layout, my best time was 1'10".

I would try again tomorrow. Care to join me for a spin?

Patrick

Reviving this 'old thread'...

Just wondering what's the fastest lap time on 80cc at City Karting with the current track set up??

A couple of months back I was at a corporate event but didn't take part, just went to kepoh and take photos... But there was 1 particular kart which seem to have the performance edge over the other karts. So immediately after the event, I took the kart and went for my 10 min drive...

Managed to clock a 1:12.20... If I'm back to my 50kg frame, it should be sub 1:12.00...
